Anyone know of any upcoming open bass tournaments? Thanks

Me and some buddies are going to venice next week. We are taking my 22ft bay boat and would like to (weather permitting) take it to the rigs. Does anyone know what would be the closest rigs to venice marina where we could land a few AJ's and some cobia/snapper. The shorter the run the better because I will be on limited gas. Also, is there still a place in the pass where you can fill your boat up with gas? One more question! I have never speck-fished at venice so if anyone had any ideas for that too I'd really appreciate it. Any information would help! Thanks guys

I have a 22ft. bay boat and want to head back to venice. would LOVE to catch some amberjack but am happy with snapper and lemonfish and so on. any tips for a venice rookie like where to go to find the right depth water for different fish and how far offshore that is?????? and what hotel should i stay at? thanks guys i appreciate it.

I have caught a few hybrid stripers in false river in the past. Most between 4-8 pounds. Once when i was young with a shad off the end of a pier and other than that on a white spinnerbait while bass fishing. Does anyone know a way i can go target the striper there? Does anyone go striper fishing in False river? Looking for a fun trip and any help about bait, locations, or techniques is greatly appreciated.

I plan on buying a hoopnet and running it. I have ran wire nets before and did okay but can anyone give me some help on how to set them up? any tips at all are appreciated

April 29, 2009 at 11:43am

Im about to buy a new setup for going to the rigs. I usually go catch snapper but hookup with everything that is 15miles offshore from fourchon. I'm in a bay boat so thats about as far as i go. What do you guys recommend? and decent to cheap setups? what size pole and reel? and what size line and leader and hook should i use for snapper and the occasional cobia and the like. I usually use 30-40lb trilene big game with a 50-60lb fluorocarbon leader. thanks guys!

I was fishing birds this morning in lake mechant and i saw some about halfway across the lake and started heading towards them (in a 15ft bass boat that goes 30mph) and i noticed that about an equal distance away from them a large bay boat started heading towards them too. obviously the bay boat beat me there but barely. they had not even made a cast yet when i pulled up. I didnt want to peel off because its not like they had been on the birds or anything they just had a faster boat and i had traveled halfway across the lake. It looked like a guide so i didnt want to mess up business so i kind of skirted the edges and watched as they caught 2 fish. after their action slowed the driver stared at me as he gunned it full throttle straight through where i was fishing 20 yards from my little bass boat!!! am i in the wrong here for fishing? not gonna get mad and dont need anyone freaking out i just wanted to know because i was not sure!

Havn't been yet this year but am going Saturday. Any tips or areas you could give would be greatly appreciated. I went to the Wax earlier this year but it was just a little too muddy and cold and I couldn't get on a pattern.

A comment titled: jugs in response to a report titled: Lake De Cade

I'm tellin you guys if there is anyway yall can drive the extra five or six miles down the same road falgouts is on and launch at jugs do it. thats where the fish are this time of year. More specks more reds more more more! lol but if ur restricted to falgouts don't worry about specks. hit the reds hard.

can you give me a little help where reds in dularge are concerned? I have been to the dularge area twice the past two weeks and caught 40 specs and 22 specks but only one red. I've never been there besides those two times and only fished around mud lake and lake mechant. any tips about where to go for a couple reds?

A comment titled: braid? in response to a report titled: whats the best snapper/cobia/offshore rig. bout to buy a new setup

I've always been told that snapper were pretty skittish. obviously red snapper are everywhere right now but mangroves i've heard to use flurocarbon for. ??? braid works fine? and holds up to the abrasion from the rigs? seems like overkill. lol but im just talking here i trust you. lol you do it alot more than i do.

A comment titled: lol in response to a report titled: carrot sticks

heard good things but heard more bad things. lol i'm not sure my pride would let me buy one even if i wanted one. all of my buddies and i refer to anyone with a carrot stick as bugs (bunny). lol the carrot stick is the butt of many of our jokes but like i said ive heard good things about them too. I prefer a falcon or castaway myself.

A comment titled: wind, tmiller in response to a report titled: First trip to Dularge

wind started off okay so i chased a few flocks of birds but after all 11 1/2 inch fish with only a couple 12" fish mixed in i decided it wasnt for me and went in search of clear water. I found it on the lee side of the lake and did decent. i saw a jack busting mullets right next to the boat and tried to get a hookup just for fun but nothing. and yea with the water that muddy and the wind i was happy with 22. most were in the 15-17" range after i got away from the birds. tried to go into sister lake but saw some 3-4' waves and the idea of going in there in a 15' bass boat was laughable. tmiller id like to learn the area a little better when the water gets right if your down for hooking up and catching some fish. i usually fish farther east like pointa la hache, montegut, golden meadow, and grand isle so when those spots turn on i can return the favor. just put a new starting battery in the 22ft predator bay boat, fixing a few kinks and then that will be my new means of transportation.

A comment titled: sry guyz in response to a report titled: your opinion????

i didnt even think to look what kind of boat. i stopped way farther from the birds than he did and trolled in. and i didnt even really get close enough to fish the birds well because i didnt want him to think i was trying to run up on him. He may not have been a guide but he was in a 24'ft blue and bay boat and had a ponytail if that helps. and as far as following him. like i said i was in a 15ft bass boat. lol tops out at 32mph with 2 ppl in it. lol i think i ended up outcatching them anyways because all they did was chase birds and catch some dink fish then it looked like they started going for reds on the bank.
