What is the Largest bass caught in Lacassine Pool?

March 18, 2009 at 10:26am

Doug Guins caught that 8.76lb bass sunday that was in the American Press this morning. There are no official records of bass caught on the Calcasieu river. Doug's fish is the largest fish that I have seen or heard of from a reliable source. Reliable meaning someone that I personally know and trust. There are many trustworthy people fishing the river. After talking to Ron Castille, who does here about most big fish that come off of that river, there might be other big fish like Doug's that have been caught. I would like to here from those that have seen or heard from a reliable source of big fish off this river.

Here are the pictures of the bass caught 2-15-09 on the Calcasieu River. She was 8.76.

I just got word from my buddy that he has set a new record on the calcasieu river. He has caught a 8.76 lb. bass on the main river. I have the pics but want to make sure he is ok with me posting them. That is one big fish for that river. In 2001 I caught a 7 lb fish in feb. on the West Fork and until two days ago that was the largest i had seen of that river.

Ron, I just want to thank you for running a great tournament. I am excited about fishing them again this year. You do a great job of running a tournament for ALL of the anglers that participate. Something that impressed me is that you make sure the anglers know that this is there tournament. Thanks again for being very professional in handling your business and your tournament.

Don’t fish ABT tournaments. This 22 inch rule is absurd. I have never even herd of a restriction in any creditable tournament like this one. Travis says the restriction has to do with conservation. Who says that any of the 21 inch fish brought out of Lacassine (to be transported to the Calcasieu River) will not reach 10+ lb status? Fish do not hatch and then become 10 lb fish the next day. It will take years before they are that big. If he wants to show conservation he just needs to stop having his tournament out there. Or, he can say what he really means and that is he will not get members of his bass club to fish it if they do not have a chance to win. This is his way of asking 3 boats not to fish so that he might pick up 10 new boats. Count me out.

When will the dog fights begin? Ron Castille runs his tournaments much more professionally than the abt tournaments. Ron has run those dog fights for years and never had issues like this. I would like to see more participation in the dog fights.

I think that Travis Merritt has lost his mind. Knowing most of the fisherman that fish this tournament, know a little about sight fishing, this will more than likely lower the participation. Why would anyone want to fish a 3 fish limit tournament all the way in Hayes if there are restrictions. There will be at least one less boat in this tournament. I can choose another tournament on another day to fish. I will also say if this is the way he operates his tournaments, I will not fish any tournament that he runs including the Calc. River or Toledo Bend. Just my strong opinion.

A comment titled: no such thing in response to a report titled: Largest Bass In Lacassine?

there is no such thing as a big fish area of lacassine. i have caught fish over 7 lbs in every area out there. i have no problem telling you where i fished yesterday or where i will fish today. the people that read this looking for a good spot could go with me in my boat and not catch fish. area does not matter near as much as some think

A comment titled: where the 11.13 was caught in response to a report titled: Largest Bass In Lacassine?

the reason i asked about where that fish was caught is because cajunsorc (close friend)had an 11+lb bass on twice yesterday but lost her both times. when he checked her later she was gone

i agree that idiots are running that pool into the ground. I also agree with keep what you want to. I guess I never thought about eating a huge fish. I have caught several big fish in lacassine over the past 5 years on beds. when i want to keep fish to eat i do not target fish on nest. I agree that those large fish are going to die if the management does not improve soon. We put those larger fish in ponds and some on the calc. river.

A comment titled: dont go in response to a report titled: THE POOL

i think you should stay home and convince about 2,000 more to stay home so it will not be so packed. Just kidding. It might be good if the clouds are not to thick. Clouds make it hard to sight fish.

A comment titled: water clear? in response to a report titled: Any help

Are the fish on beds yet? With the rain this weekend will it be clear enough to sight fish? Never done much sight fishing in Millers. Want to catch a big one, take a picture, and turn her back. If the water is not clear I do not want to make the drive from lake charle. Thanks.

I am fired up about march 15th also. I caught a 11.2 lb bass two years ago. Lost another one on the same day at the boat that made her look small.
