The fishing has been really good lately. This past weekend had everyone shutdown due to high winds and seas. Pretty much winter time fishing between fronts I guess. All groups are doing real well. Fish are being caught behind shrimp boats and also in open water. Cut bait (pogies / bonita) and livies are producing as are top water at times. The yellow fin are pretty good sized so be prepare for a fight. Lots of fun to be had for all. We hope you enjoy the pictures.
Happy Fathers Day to all!!
Anyone know who runs a 33' AmeriCat with yamaha's? I understand from the VHF that they are overdue from a sword fishing trip. The CG said they were out of Grand Isle. We fish out of Venice so Im not much help. It may be the Reel Addict for the vessel name...
Surely someone on here knows of the group...
All mariners please make sure we are operating safely. There has been way too many accidents that have happened here recently. One is too many!! I am aware of 5 different vessels involved in four seperate situations where there has been injuries or missing persons in the last week. Boat operators put those life jackets on the little ones. The new law states that anyone 16 years or younger riding in a vessel less than 26' in length must have on a USCG approved PFD wile underway. It is no longer 12 yeards old... They have all kinds and sizes. Get a comfortable one!
We may only get one chance to get this one right..
Double check and triple confirm all your safety gear. There are many local water patrols that will help you check it all out if you are unsure. I am sure someone out there wants you to return home! The downside is not worth it.
The water is a wonderful place to enjoy but it can turn into a very unforgiving place immediately.
Prayers to all involved!!
Crew worked really hard to make their catch. Everything was caught on jigs except the snapper. The snapper were on squid or pogies. It really did not matter. Muliple tuna, snapper and a scamp that will make the top ten list in the state of Louisiana. He weighed 24.79#'s. Hard to believe he was hanging in 2800+' of water. Nice trip all around. Thanks to Quade, Ross, Jarrett, Francis, Daniel, and Josh (Broussard) for a job well done!
Additional pictures to follow...
All beware!! Fog is very thick in the river from Venice on out offshore. It was the same yesterday morning but broke an hour or so after sunrise. It seemed to let up some around 6 miles or so offshore out of South & South West pass areas respectively. Use caution as this is a very dangerous situation. Fair seas and calm winds were the norm yesterday. From what I can see this morning, it will be a very nice trip when you can get offshore. All the costal fishermen... the fog continued to hang around the passes until midmorning. It was a little hazy after midmorning but not bad at all. Good luck to all!!
Looks like a very nice weekend shaping up for offshore fishing. It it almost glass offshore presently. Fish breaking all around. The big tuna should be showing up very soon. Pretty nice catches of smaller YFT and BFT are almost a given. The wahoo are giving but seem to be wide open or nothing. Lots of amberjack if you want some pull. It looks like the normal group of Captains are back on some fish and are awaiting the big YFT runs. Good luck to everyone for a very successful 2011 season. We want to see plenty of nice trip pictures so let's all do our part and share some photos. Let the fishing begin!!
Merry Christmas to all our fellow sportsladies and sportsmen..
Cajun Knot Reel Adventures
Great trip this past Friday! Tuna easy as pie! Tuna are pretty thick just a few miles South of Venice boys!! Y'all know the spot! Save some fuel and get it done quick! There were a good many boats getting it on behind the shrimpers just like us. Let's all remember we need to work together on the big ones. There is no need to crowd or fuss. Lots of beautiful fish to go around right now. Let your fellow sportsmen/gals get their trophies in and they will give you your turn. Remember to take a kid fishing when you can even if they are not your own. Sorry no pictures this trip but our camera ended up getting sick! Thanks again Anthony Pugalia for the smoking hot deals on the 8 new jigging rigs. You are the best and I owe you and your Pop one.. We gonna see who the best of them all will be now .... Talica II 16 or Saltists 40's! Shootout baby!! Reports to follow!!
Wishing everyone tight lines and strong backs,
We saw many beautiful grass beds in the MP299 towards VK900 areas today. There were nice dolphin in them thick. Yes, I said DOLPHIN. They were lit up and feeding like crazy! Black fin tuna in every direction at sundown. Some of you may not believe this but it is so very true. It was an amazing day to see all the activity. We were just watching. The water is beautiful. Baby hardtails everywhere. The latest charts show this area to be closed to all fishing but it needs to be reopened ASAP! I hate to make your mouths water but I am so tired of hearing all the bad press about this area. Trust me it is on as soon as it opens!!
Gentlemen, I have had a H2O Optics camera for a few years and have hed very good service with it. Last year I leaned up against the side of the boat while putting a gaff in a nice yellowfin and broke the case. Bad situation but I sent it back for repairs and for a fair price they repaired it without a hitch. Well... when I took the camera back out to film some underwater activities it immediately filled with saltwater. All bad! I called the Pentax repair center and they replaced it with a brand new latest and greatest model. Just passing on the good customer service. Yes, it was supposed to be a waterproof camera.:)
Anyone know who does boat T-Top canvas replacements in the North Shore area?
Fishermen / Fisherladies, get the Valentine's day business out of the way and get the heck offshore and get to the tuna & wahoo. Valentines day with a bowed-up rod pounding the tuna. Hard to beat!! I hope that is not taken the wrong way! This is Big Time sportsfishing!! This report is right off the press. The gulf is almost glass out of Venice right now. Tuna boiling all aound the rigs last night. Grab the rods and get it done. Good weather and calm seas forecasted all day until tomorrow where it will kick-up again. I am sure my fellow charter captains will get it done today!! Good luck to all! Post your pictures and tell your stories.
Happy New Year to all my fellow sportsmen and sportsladies out there. Thanks for a great 2009! Make your resolutions and Good Luck sticking with them....
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Thanks for sharing all the pictures and stories throughout the last year. Prayers, tight lines, and "Thumbs-up" wishes to everyone from all of us at Cajun Knot Reel Adventures.
Anyone lose this weather buoy. It was banging around the platform this morning around the Main Pass 299 area. It is heading SSW. I imagine someone will be pretty disappointed when they discover it missing. It is really rough out here this morning and we have no way of assisting with its recovery..
A new friend with his pet. I like to have crapped myself when he came into the den with it in his arms. He lives on his own ranch in Texas. I was not aware but these guys make some great pets.
Anyone witnessing an incident involving the NOPD in the Superdome parking garage after the Saints vs. the Jets game please contact me via email. If you saw it I am sure you would remember the incident. It involved a family in a black Tahoe and the NOPD. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Please pass this around to as many fellow sportsmen as possible.
Thanks for your consideration,
A few more pictures to enjoy!!
Great trip this past weekend! The water was beautiful. The tuna & dolphin were turned on like wildfire. We went 0 for 3 on YFT starting the day. We pulled the hooks on two and broke the big boy of the day off right at the boat. Our crew settled in and got their share of pull and bloody decks going 9 for 12 on the next YFT and 4 for 5 on the Dorado. Everyone wanted to eat a tuna heart. We were treated to a huge whale shark and some great tail-walking from a giant Dorado for a great finale! Thanks to the team for a fantastic adventure. Nothing but "Thumbs-Up" fishing over here baby!
