Fished in Grand Chenier Monday with my two youngest due to MLK day and we were able to wear out 6 reds, and 2 drum. 4 reds were 24-26 inches and we left them biting. Could have caught more but I was letting my kids do all the work while I played deckhand and watched God's glory in front of my eyes. A beautiful day with my children teaching them about all the good things in life. Doesn't get any better. Caught fish with dead shrimp on bottom at the HWY 82 bridge that crosses the Mermantau. Water was muddy but a pretty good tide. God bless.
Fished Mermantau Hwy 82 Friday with my wife. Didn't realize, but they close off the bulkhead to a private company and you can no longer fish off the road under the bridge but we went a little further upstream and caught a few reds and few croaker. The largest red went about 30 inches and had at least 1lb of shrimp in it's stomach. Never seen that much before. He must of been on a seafood diet.
Quick trip to Grand Chenier Saturday am netting three reds 25", 26", and 28" and one keeper drum at 20". I was scouting for Labor day so I could bring my wife and kids. I hope that the weather cooperates. Fish caught on cut mullet using a wire leader caught on the east side of Mermantau off the road before the bridge along some pilings.
Went to the bay for two days last week. Checked all the usual spots (shark bayou, cove, hammock, trash pile, worm, bird island) and cam away with 12 croakers and 1 4 ft gar. I played the tides right but specks and reds were not biting. Any suggestions or any reports going on out there. Several at the dock had no luck as well.
