Fished in Grand Chenier Monday with my two youngest due to MLK day and we were able to wear out 6 reds, and 2 drum. 4 reds were 24-26 inches and we left them biting. Could have caught more but I was letting my kids do all the work while I played deckhand and watched God's glory in front of my eyes. A beautiful day with my children teaching them about all the good things in life. Doesn't get any better. Caught fish with dead shrimp on bottom at the HWY 82 bridge that crosses the Mermantau. Water was muddy but a pretty good tide. God bless.

Fished Mermantau Hwy 82 Friday with my wife. Didn't realize, but they close off the bulkhead to a private company and you can no longer fish off the road under the bridge but we went a little further upstream and caught a few reds and few croaker. The largest red went about 30 inches and had at least 1lb of shrimp in it's stomach. Never seen that much before. He must of been on a seafood diet.

Quick trip to Grand Chenier Saturday am netting three reds 25", 26", and 28" and one keeper drum at 20". I was scouting for Labor day so I could bring my wife and kids. I hope that the weather cooperates. Fish caught on cut mullet using a wire leader caught on the east side of Mermantau off the road before the bridge along some pilings.

Went to the bay for two days last week. Checked all the usual spots (shark bayou, cove, hammock, trash pile, worm, bird island) and cam away with 12 croakers and 1 4 ft gar. I played the tides right but specks and reds were not biting. Any suggestions or any reports going on out there. Several at the dock had no luck as well.

I went the saturday before mothers day at rollover, the shrimp were not there at all. Where did you'll catch your shrimp? The crabs were slow as well, but hoping it will be picking up soon. Caught two 20' drum at the weir on the left but kids missed several more.

Anybody have any tips on how to cut through the scales on garfish to skin them. I haven't found the right tool yet, what does everybody use to clean them.

Thanks for the report. I have fished off the bank and done very well on an outgoing. I was wondering how was the shrimp you caught? Are they finally moving in Joe's Harbor, I caught about 10 pounds 2 weeks ago but they were very small.

How was the shrimp? I went two weeks ago and they were still on the 'shrimpy' side.lol Nice catch. I bring my kids to Joe's Harbour as much as I can and the shrimp and crabs were scarce two eeks ago, and looking to go this week. Where did you catch your reds? I have done well at the Mermantau off the bank b/c I have no boat. Where do you bank fish? do you need a boat to get there? Thanks

Try alittle further down hwy 82 to Mermantau, take a right after the bridge and follow the road about 1/2 mile and pull off the road to the right, oyster bottom there and try an outgoing tide, hammered the reds MLK day, tried Ash Wednesday and only caught 2 but, an outgoing is the way to go. Post how you did, that is usually a pretty productive spot.

Did you guys try to fish by those dams? I take my kids to the end of the left side by the locks and shrimp there and catch a few fish off the bank but it is always crowded, (4 lbs Sunday pm), but would like to put them on some keepers this fall. Thanks for the info.

How do you get to the concrete dam out of Joe's Harbour, launch on the right or left. Have heard of it, but never been. Also LSU, how would I know when I got there?

God has blessed us hasn't he? With all the crap that is going on in this country, it's such a blessing to know that it is the simple things in life that he leaves us to enjoy with our family. My kids and wife enjoy fishing, shrimping and crabbing as much as I do and for that I am truly blessed. Many more great outing like that for you and yours and God Bless.
