Does anybody have the contact information for a member of the Raccourci Island Hunting club??
Thanks
First deer i have ever killed with a bow, and the first of the season at the camp.
It is still an impressive deer, but killing a deer like that free range is a big difference than killing it in a fence. Im not saying it is not a challenge, but it is less of a challenge than free range. That would almost be a new record if it was free range.
B&C means you killed that deer free range right?
from North East of Pickens, MS
Let him walk if there is no threat of somebody else killing him. He still has another year of growth before he planes out and begins to decline. If there is a threat of somebody else shooting him, then i would take him out because he is still a very nice buck.
These are some nice deer. They had to have been fenced though. Very impressed if they were free range though.
he is 4 ½ to big of a gut for 3 ½ but not big enough for 5 ½
His belly is hanging too low for 3.5 and his tarsal gland is too dark. Tarsal gland changes color big time between 3.5 and 4.5.
very little chance he is 3.5yrs.
Get the Gold Tip 5570's. Durable and very straight. never done me wrong with deer
i shot the older version of that bow 2 yrs ago and i used 2 different broadheads. Magnus Snuffer and Woodsman 100grain. The Magnus is better than the G5 primarily because its sharper and more durable. The Woodsman is a long broadhead, so it will give you a pass through because it loses the least amount of energy when it cuts. This is my first season not using either broadhead as my primary because im shooting much faster. I shot 4 deer last season. 2 with Magnus Snuffer and 2 with Woodsman. All 4 deer ran less than 40 yds, one of which was a buck. double lunged all of them. I would certainly reccomend the snuffer and/or woodsman. woodsman downside: you have to order them online
Magnus Snuffer: available at bass pro
both broadheads are well worth it
PS: dont shoot mechanical. stay with the broadheads that you can always trust to do the job.
That is a very rare deer. You should definitely get the hide tanned, because chances are you will never see one again.
You need to score that thing. He might be in the top ten i bet. His mass is incredible. Good story. Give the details on him.
He definitely has bad genes. You need to get him out of there before the rut begins. Rare deer also. You don't see those every day.
First off, thanks both of yall!
And i will never ever go back to rifle hunting. I got my 1st deer ever with a rifle and this bow kill was about 10 times more exciting/rewarding/nerve racking.
Details:
Saturday afternoon, climbed the stand about 2:30 (25 Feet). Knocked my arrow and sat quietly. 3:30, saw 3 does that would not come within range (40 yards). A small 6 point and a 4 point walked under me and messed around for about 10 minutes. I wanted to sling at them, but would rather get a chance in a few years when they were wall hangers. Right at 6:00pm my friend texted me and asked me if i had seen anything. As i was typing 'no shooters', i heard some leaves crunching. I turned around only to see this doe 5 yards behind me. She walked right under me and looked like she was in a hurry. She walked past a young oak (thats when i drew back), and when she got 15 yards, i whistled and slung. I got her perfect. 70% of her vitals had been hit by my broad head (woodsman elite). She ran 30 yards.
Stand: Summit Razor SS
Bow: Parker Trailblazer XP 55lbs.
Arrow: Gold Tip Hunter XT with NAP quick fletch
Broad head: Woodsman Elite
Sight: Apex Bone Collector 4 pin
Rest: QAD drop away
I have the same bow, and the 'woodsman elite' are the sharpest and most penetrable broadhead on the market. Cant go wrong with them.
I have been looking for a lease in East Feliciana. Do you know anybody i could contact or and leads?
Thanks, Sam
That's exactly what I was trying to say. Thank you for clearing the air. Like I said though, still an impressive buck
