I have an old spear gun I use from time to time (a mares I think) and I need a new band and possibly a new spear hear. Is there anyone near the Hammond/ Ponchatoula area that can help me? Thanks in advance

last week I had a gentleman come in with a custom rifle on a remington 700 action, it has a number 5 contour barrel with break and he wanted a scope that would give him the best clarity, an easy to use ballistic compensation system, and magnification for close shots as well as the ability to shoot to about 600 yards. He\'s hunting in high elevation, game is elk, and in the future, sheep, so weight was a consideration. keeping these things in mind, we went with a swarovski 3-18x50 z6 with ballistic turret and 4W reticle. we like the 4w because it gives you some windage references, and is a nice all around reticle we helped design. it gives him plenty of magnification, it\'s light considering it\'s size, and was a perfect fit for the rifle and intended task

for the base, he wanted something solid and very dependable, and we also though it would hurt to add a little extra adjustment, considering a lot of hunting scopes lack the adjustment range of their tactical counter parts, so we went with a nightforce 20 moa picatinny rail.

for the rings, we stuck with nightforce, and with that number 5 contour barrel, the low .885 optical center line rings fit easily, and in my experience with this set up, works up to a 56mm objective.

swarovski also offers some really nice lens covers, and while they are expensive, they are worth every penny if they protect your glass, so we set the scope up with said lens covers.

here is a short video showing the completed product. enjoy.

fished lake ponchatrain saturday, got stumped. we went all over the place but the wind played hell with the fishing. still had a good time, stayed at my camp on the tangipahoa river friday night, fished all night off the dock and my buddy caught a black drum and a gar. my camp is about 5 miles upstream from the lake ponchatrain so the drum was pretty weird.

hello everyone. I'm thinking of going fishing this weekend in lake ponchatrain/maurepas this weekend. I'll be staying at my camp on the tangipahoa river and working from the mouth of the tangipahoa river out from there. anyone have any tips been around lake ponchatrain lately, heard if the fish are biting and what they are biting on? any advice/tip would be appreciated.

i've heard you can get 4$ per tail for hunting these things, wondering if you need a special license or anything. also, what do you need to hunt hogs and other critters the state deems "pesk"

just need some advice on what choke tubes i need for a 31/2 inch remington 870 super mag. i have a modified choke, so i think i'm ok as far as duck or any small game goes, i'm wondering what i need for deer really, or anyother chokes that might come in handy. e-mail me with any advice, or just post a reply. another thing, i'm thinking i want chokes that shoot both lead and steel shot, is this feasible or not?

A comment titled: i'm looking at two reels in response to a report titled: how to pick out a rod and reel

an abu garcia and a shimano. they both run about 80$, i need to handle them a little more before i make the final decision. i'm also looking at some fishing rods, they are about 100$ okuma, you get a lifetime warranty.

A comment titled: Shimano Symetre 2500 in response to a report titled: how to pick out a rod and reel

i think i'm going to go with this reel. i'm gonig to take about a week to look at all my options, this trip i'm just going to have to borrow a a rodnreel, next time i'm going to try to have my own. as far as a rod goes, i think i'm going to go with a 6 foot rod to save space. as far as manufacture, i'm still unsure. i know i don't want to spend over 75$ on a rod and it would be nice to stay under 100$ on the reel.

A comment titled: thanks for the advice. in response to a report titled: how to pick out a rod and reel

i'm going to pick up a rod and reel today. i've been looking at shimano, but i'm not sure which one i want as far as reels go. i've heard the more ball bearings you have the smoother it is, so i guess i'll look for one with a bunch of ball bearings.

first of all, your golden boy is just another politician, nothing special.

second, everytime he opens his mouth, the stock market drops.

lastly, he isn't gonig to fix anything, has already shown what kind of leader he is going to be, and i can only hope we get someone better next go around.

A comment titled: the 300 wsm is a good bullet in response to a report titled: Need help

lots of good qualities about it, nice rifle size, knock down power, etc. it's a good round, but it's too new to be sure it will catch on, not alot of different loads are being offered as of now. i would take easy of finding ammo, cost, and different loadings into account when chooseing. not to mention in a year or two the 300 wsm may just be a memory. not saying it's bad, it just might happen

February 24, 2009 at 11:10am
A comment titled: i would go with a 30.06 in response to a report titled: Need help

you can get more loadings, bullets are easier to find in a variety of loads.

i noticed someone mentioned scopes earlier. don't look at the objective size, look at tube diameter. the objective size isn't as important for low light shooting as tube diameter. go with a 30 mil tube and thick reticle post. that will give you the edge when you take those early morning and late evening shots.

A comment titled: just go with a good bullet in response to a report titled: deer hunting

any modern firearm with a good bullet size will do the job. i like a 30.06, but a 308, 270, etc will do the job.

A comment titled: doesn't look good in response to a report titled: Gun legislation now on HOUSE FLOOR

we have alot of anti gun nuts in the government right now. i hope they fear gun control legislation because of kerry and gore (the fact that being anti gun kinda sank them) i see them microstamping ammo or taxing ammo out of existance.
