Does anyone know whats up with the .17 HMR ammo? I cannot find it in anywhere. Did the ammo hogs start buying this up as well or is there something else going on?

Has anyone had any extensive use in this pirogue? If so is there any reason i should buy one of the longer models?

Minimal amounts of teal in the air this morning in biloxi marsh so we picked up the rods at 7:30 and went for trout. Caught about 100 with only 30 keepers. Most fish were caught on the shrimp creole matrix shad. A few on the ultraviolet and a similar colored D.0.A. The key was stick and move most of the day with a few spots being revisited and held trout throughout the day. Highlight of the day was a big red that put up a 45 min fight and broke the landing net. The goal was to finally try Bobs lake but by the time we got there the wind was howling with 2-3 footers at the entrance to Bobs

I believe I am done fishing until October. The past couple of trips have not been productive and i cannot remember ever catching this many catfish in my entire life. From the causeway to breton sound they have been hitting any bait you throw be it live, dead, or plastic on top bottom and suspened. I am done fooling with them this summer.

Another great two days in the lake. Shrimp creole and lemon drop did the damage again. Trout are hungry until the tide stops and then they make you work for it.

May 15, 2013 at 9:02pm

Had a steady trout bite today on the tracks. Almost didn't go because of all the rain. Sat at Dockside and watched it rain for about an hour. Got the boat in the water for 8am with sky's clearing. Knowing we had to be back for 11 and looking at the dirty water we were not expecting much. Once we hit mid lake and put the poles in the water the fish were waiting. Ended the day with a nice box considering we lost a bunch at the boat.

Looking to fish the trestles tomorrow. I was wondering if the water was clean or dirty.

To the four guys fishing yesterday north of Pete's lagoon in the dead end canal. Thank you for parking it less than 70 yards from our duck blind and ignoring our signals that it would be nice if you left. That is exactly what i wanted to do all morning was watch you guys fish. It amazes me that with all the miles and miles of great fishing in that marsh that you thought the only place you could catch fish was right next to a group of duck hunters. It was a perfect display of lack of courtesy, common sense, and respect for another sportsman.

I first need to say thank you to the best fiance in the world. We dont shoot many mallards where i hunt so the opportunity came to mount a beautiful bird that did not recieve much damage. Last march i dropped it off to Brad Ripp at Louisiana Outdoors. i knew that it would be a nice wait before i got it back but i did not realize it would be ready in the mist of a job change and so soon after christmas where money was a little tight. These events, coupled with the fact that we have a wedding to save for in November caused me to call Brad and tell them i may not be able to purchase the bird. i guess i looked a little upset about the whole situation because without even telling me, my fiance called my parents and asked if they would pick it up and she would pay them. sunday she tells me that she has a surprise for me. now normally i dont get excited when she says she has a surprise because it usualy means she has found a new pet to add to our family, but to my surprise when i opened my eyes there was the mount flying left to right just how I requested. So i wanted to say thank you to the guys at Louisiana Outdoors because the bird is beautiful, and a special thanks to my fiance Rachel, you are the best and i can't wait till November.

What would be the third and fourth most popular styles of fishing on Mr. Martin's lake? explosives or electricity?

Origional Question:

At this time of year fro fishing for specks or reds would it be better to use plastics or live or dead bait?

Bass???? Lake Okachowhoooo???? I believe we have deviated far from the origional question.

A comment titled: Re: Plastic or Live in response to a report titled: Plastic or Live

the reason I didn't pick a side is because I don't believe one works better than the other all the time. Let's face it, if you are trout fishing in June july and August and want to consistently catch fish you beter have some shrimp or pogies. And if it's late August and September I think pogies over shrimp. But if you say live ALWAyS works better than plastic you need more practice with artificial lures. And if you are a guide taking all walks of life fishing then you better have live bait. You may be dealing with clients who cannot skillfully cast a rod much less work a jig or twitchbait

Exact opposite. They are there because they know how to use it well.

A comment titled: Re: Plastic or Live in response to a report titled: Plastic or Live

Not picking a side on this one, but if I were guiding, I would be buying live bait because I would not have faith in my clients to be able to properly work artificial lures. In order for plastic to outfish live one must know how to effectively use it. And that is the reason that I believe that it is not used in a tournament setting as well.

A comment titled: Re: Biloxi WMA in response to a report titled: Biloxi WMA

270 handyman. Simple question but a not so simple, yet one sided answer from yourself. I love the fact that I have half a dozen hunting spots in Biloxi marsh and have never had a hunter set up closer than 300 yards from me. Even with the mud motors the place was not over crowded. But if I made 5 hunts out there this year and noticed people in air cooled motors just riding the backwaters to 'scout' or 'chase Ducks' or whatever you want to call it. Then rest assured that the land owners, wildlife and fisheries and whoever else that makes the decisions out there have taken note as well. Do I hunt out of a surface drive with friends when invited? Hell yeah they are awesome. Would I be livid if I just dropped 20K on a new boat just to be told I can't use it? Hell yeah. But if you have an issue with the ban you should confront the irresponsible owners when you see them doing stupid s@&$.

A comment titled: Just keep moving in response to a report titled: 2 trees or stump lagoon area?

Everything Dr. Spot said is accurate. Just keep sticking and moving. Drift the choke points of bayous connecting bays where the tide is moving through. Dont throw the anchor unless the you get four to five back to back. Four to five trout in the boat not four to five bites. Pick which area you will fish based on where you think the cleaner water will be. I don't believe that either area is better than the other right now. If you want a mess of trout then hit the edges of bay eloi or black bay depending on wind direction.

A comment titled: Need more info in response to a report titled: rods

This question requires more detail. For example: if you are fishing live bait for reds you don't want the same rod as you want if you are fishing a jig for trout. And if you are throwing topwater you want a different rod than the other two. Without sounding rude I think the question is what are you doing with your rod that is making the eyes pop out. From my experience if it is the eye that is closest to the tip then you are probably reeling your line in too much and the force from the jig head, popping cork, or swivel is putting tension on the eye and/or insert. This will pop inserts and bend the eye over time. There are multiple other things that could be causing the problem but that is the main one I see. Especially among bass fisherman when storing rods. I cringe when I see that brush hog or frog reeled all the way up against the eye.

Thank you sir for this post. Seems like we just went through the same conversation after duck season this year. Same people fishing and hunting the same spots for the past 30 years expecting the fish and birds not to change patterns.

I am just thankfull you had enough battery life left in that phone to share this with everyone.

A comment titled: I'm with Cajun dude in response to a report titled: What's going on?

I believe it's about biomass. Redfish have been very abundant in recent years. They grow larger and in turn eat more food per fish than trout. They Cary a popular following due to ease of catch, tournament fishing, and tagging programs so no one is complaining. It is very possible that they are out competing the trout. Why not make that red limit 10 per person to trim that population.

I also agree with capt Miller. Most rec anglers do not know what they are doing when it comes to trout. They are much more picky than reds drum etc. The last few trips have been frustrating due to the smaller trout but we still had the fisherman everywhere who see you catching and pull up watching and asking how etc.

Granted the other factors play a role as well. Such as cold winter, oil spill, poor weather, fishing pressure, land loss, high river making lake P dirty and low in salinity etc. However, I believe the trout and redfish crowds could benefit from a higher redfish limit. Oh yes and it certainly couldn't hurt the crab population to thin the reds out some. What if the bull croaker population were to make a comeback? Hmmmmm

300 you are a classic example of a keyboard bad ass. Put a sock in it and move on. If you don't like what you see in the report section then why open it. You are complaining that only guides post reports/advertisements but you are part of the problem by not posting either. The fact that you keep viewing the page and complaining but do nothing to make it better allows one to make the assumption that you are just trolling for free fishing information and because it's not given you want to whine about it.

A comment titled: Don't argue with slick head in response to a report titled: PEARL RIVER HOGS

He is from Monroe but has all the answers to save all of S.E. Louisiana's problems from hogs and nutria to freshwater diversions and pine beetles. He has a new book coming out called 'You don't know ish about your own region'. It contains wonderful second hand information given to him through press releases and his own experiences 300 miles away. Bottom line is that all other private land has declared war on hogs at all cost even using night permits to maximize harvest potential. But the WMA will not allow extended season because they are worried a someone will take other wildlife out of season. And instead chew up senseless man hours and fuel flying around in a helicopter. 21 pigs? That is senseless. With three gestation periods a year and up to 8 per littler that will be replaced by one or two sows in a year. Broaden the caliber rifles extend the season. Let the dog guys run them all summer. The hogs have been a problem since I was a kid so this is no news story. If an outlaw wants to take a deer out of season then deal with that as it comes along. Most of the hog hunters also want a crack at a decent deer in the fall so it would more than likely be self policed and most outlaws would have to hide from the wardens and peers.

The new Chronarch and revo sx are about even in my opinion. The revo is lighter and smaller so it fits in hand better and the brakes can be adjusted externally so i favor it slightly. Guess I got lucky with my Chronarch no grinding yet. As for the revo I fish it in salt (brackish) three times a month on average and no issues

Ten dollars extra does not sound bad at all until you look at it from a % increase. I agree when you jump the cost 67% in one year it kinda seems like a big middle finger should be printed on the stamp.

bought the Marlin lever action .308 and made two perfect shots and never saw blood. Neither deer ran more than 50 yards but no blood. Both shots were within 40 yards and my only theory is this bullet blows through before expanding. Its a shame because the gun was a soft and accurate shooter. Only problem is that the leverevolution round is the only option so i sold it.

A comment titled: what i like about it in response to a report titled: Chapman Canebreak

I like the idea of a very short pirogue so its easy to conceal/sink in the water while we hunt. We also fish afterward and i think the shorter length will give us a little more fishing room.

A comment titled: Cargo in response to a report titled: Chapman Canebreak

At 10 ft long and a capacity of 230 pounds I would just be paddling back and forth to the blind from the boat and possibly to pick up downed birds when necessary. I do not believe it was designed for more than that. I am more concerned about how it does on mud flats and high winds stability etc. Does the bow blow all over the place in a crosswind? We have a few other pirogues for long paddles and carrying loads.

A comment titled: Benelli snap in response to a report titled: NEW SHOTGUN

Googled it and only thing I found is info on snap caps. What is benelli snap? If my 1100's that were passed down to me would have shot 3' and been left handed I would have never purchased another gun. However I am kinda glad they didn't because I love my SBE 2. I have sat in a blind with 870's, 11-87's, stoeger's, Winchester etc that have had problems. Most recently a buddy has an 11-87 that locks the action after firing. In order to get it to eject you have to loosen the mag cap a little and pull the bolt back and reload. It has been a single shot for him all year long. Gunsmith has seen it twice and cannot find the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
