New To Sportsman Network?

I've been meaning to ask... or maybe I just can't find it. On the mobile version of your website, which I use on my iPad, I cannot seem to find the 'Search' option for articles. Before the site makeover there was a search bar which you could type anything under the sun and anything related to that topic would pop up. Did y'all do away with that or is it an oversight on the mobile version?

*side note* I tried looking for the original thread related to the site upgrades but scrolled back 3-4 pages and gave up.
Thanks, hopefully y'all will add it back or point me in the right direction to find it.

My son and I made a quick trip to Leeville this morning, fished the northern side of lake Jesse. Nothing spectacular but came home with 20 keeper specks and a couple reds. Live minnows under a cork. Back in BR by 4:30, fish and boat cleaned by 5.. It's beer thirty then time to sleep.

Planning a trip, y'all still catching fish in the lower Pearl/mud lake area?

Been quite a while since I've posted on here.. I usually just lurk and read.. But we're planning a trip to the island this coming Monday-Thursday and I've a question about how the westerly winds they're calling for in the next few days will effect the water clarity on the beaches. Seems like we've had a southeast wind forever now and the water has for the most part stayed dirty close to the beach. Thanks in advance guys

We had a great day on the water yesterday with Capt. Frank with Laid Back Charter. We ended up with 108 trout, and if we would have had a few more 'fishermen' in the boat we would have easily caught our limits. I can't say enough about Capt. Frank and the services he offers, not only can he obviously find the fish but he truly gives you an enjoyable and memorable day on the water. This was my second trip with him and it certainly wont be the last. The name 'Laid Back Charter' is definitely appropriate and I encourage anyone of you that want a truly unique fishing trip to book with him. I am already planning my next trip with him because I am sure he is booking up fast. Thanks again Capt. Frank

A friend of mine and I were talking today and he was telling me about a problem he has at his duck hunting lease. The cattails and marsh have completly taken over the potholes he has been hunting. I told him I would ask the "experts" here on this site and we would find him a answer to his problem.
The marsh completly covered all the ditches and filled in the holes. The go devil was used to bust a ditch about 100 yds long but that took about 5 hours and lots of sweat. So the question is what do you guys think the best way bust through the marsh without using any kind of chemicals to kill it?
.... there is about 3 foot of water and the cattails are about 5 foot tall.

Went to elmers island last weekend and had a BLAST!!!!!!!! 3 of us ended up with limit, maybe 10 or so had to be measured. All nice size average 16"-22" fish. Saturday we all had our limits by 9 o'clock. Caught on carolina rigged cocahoe or on plastic(chicken on a chain).Sunday it took us a little longer.....wasn't till 11. You had to get as deep as possible and cast as far out as you could, but when I tell you they hit it as soon as it hit the water I mean they were practicaly jerking the pole out of your hand.

As much as I agree on y’alls opinions on the farmers up north manipulating their farmlands and holding ducks during freezes, I don’t believe this should turn into a Larry Reynolds bashing thread. I very seriously doubt there has been another individual that has done more for the Louisiana waterfowler than Mr Reynolds has done while with the ldwf.

On to the topic at hand... there is no doubt in my mind that what DU and the farmers are doing should be illegal. Not so much the ice eaters, to me that’s fair game. But flooding cornfields is no different in my eyes than throwing a couple sacks of corn in the marsh and should be illegal. And the combination of the two is what is killing us south La hunters. Mr Reynolds spoke of us leading the harvest reports year in and year out but I would offer the suggestion that there are many more hunters here per capita than other states and duck hunting is a rich tradition here so 17.2 ducks per season really isn’t that many when you hunt 30 days out of the year.

Personally I'd send a couple F bombs their way.. Maybe tell em a story about how I saw their mom on the corner last night.. That being said, people have no idea about this etiquette word that you speak of. If most people used their head other than a hat rack they'd probably catch a few more fish.

Medium heavy rod may be a bit much for specs in my opinion.. Personally I use the 7' medium light Duce trout rod. To me it helps me feel the subtle bites. Throw some 20# fluorocarbon on your reel and you can feel em looking at the shrimp before they bite it.. For artificial and reds I use a 7' medium action Castaway with 30# braid.

I'm far from an expert..but I pondered whether to fish golden meadow or leeville a couple weeks ago and decided on leeville. Not sure if they're still catching them in catfish lake or not, my thoughts were the fish had started to move south so I went with that. But truthfully if you're concerned about only having a couple days to fish and saying it usually takes a while to figure them out in leeville wouldn't you think it'd take just as long fishing a whole new area? If not longer. Fish what you know and hope you figure them out sooner is my suggestion.

Saw a posted 'crab lease' sign where I dropped the pin and a few others around that area. Was my first time fishing that area out of my own boat, which is a 15' with a 23 go devil, so we were pretty limited to where we could fish.

Now that you mention it I do remember hearing about that speck.. I really don't see how beachfront can be private property but can certainly understand the rights of private landowners. If you pull up the lafourche parish tax assessor website and go to the map you can see the beach marked as owned by the state. I'd just like them to open it back up again, it was a great place to fish the surf. Even if we have to pay for daily access. Last summer I browsed through the minutes of the port commissions monthly meetings looking for any info or discussion about the beach but could only find one instance where it was discussed.

Only true way to undo the giant cluster F that's been created not only in maurapas but all along our coast is to blow the damn levees up. Just west of Vacherie looks like a nice spot to me. Build levees in the populated areas, Elevate highways, do what has to be done if people insist on living in a floodplain. Let ol' muddy do her thing in the southeast corner of our state. We could build all the diversion canals we want but Mother Nature can't be replicated. Would the Corp have built them in the first place had they known the devastating ramifications to our marsh they would have in only 80 years? Maybe. But it's a nearly century old mistake that needs to be corrected before we have nothing left... Like yesterday.

February 11, 2016 at 6:52pm

Pretty sure the 'logical explanation' as to why the season doesn't extend into February is that silly thing called federal law.. It's buried deep down in that migratory bird treaty act or in Title 50 somewhere lol

A comment titled: Re: LDWF Public Meetings in response to a report titled: LDWF Public Meetings

Yesterday I duck hunted roughly 200 yards from where I deer hunt.. In flooded timber. Most of the deer I've ever seen in that location have been in shin deep water so that's not necessarily true. I certainly would not want to be standing there with a duck call in my hand with all us public land hunting yahoos come sunrise on an either sex morning lol. With that being said though, for the most part yes what you say is pretty accurate. There's never going to be a perfect solution to appease every hunter in the state... There's way to many factors involved. I certainly don't envy Mr Reynolds position when it comes to discussions like this.

A comment titled: Re: LDWF Public Meetings in response to a report titled: LDWF Public Meetings

My biggest complaint has always been this...
Either sex deer hunts 15/16

Nov 27- 29
Dec 5-6
Indian bayou

Nov 27-29
Dec 4-6

Yancey/ grassy lake/ maurapus/ spring bayou

East zone waterfowl 15/16
Nov 21- Dec 6

We lose 2 weekends every year at the 2 closest management areas to Baton Rouge due to either sex deer hunts. So personally I'd be in favor of a 5 day first split then adding those days on the front end of the second split or breaking it into 3 splits.

A comment titled: Re: Sherburne WMA in response to a report titled: Sherburne WMA

Ha! I'm with you albino... I used to like it there but I enjoy getting to a parking lot at 4 and being the only one there better... And still kill ducks. Quick story about Sherb tho... Was about 2:30am and we were headed down happytown rd when we saw headlights coming. Ur thought process immediately tells you this isn't good. Only one person going to be headed out of the swamp at this time in the morning.. First truck passes us pulling an empty trailer, second truck stopped us and asked we were on e management so early.. I tell me you gotta be early if you want a spot lol.. He proceeds to tell us that u can't be on the management until after 4 yada yada yada.. I ask if he'd like for us to go wait at the end of bayou Manuel.. He says no, just go wait at the launch until legal time... So we make the corner on 120 thinking we'd just gotten lucky get to the boat launch and see 3-4 green pants getting into their sd. One made his way towards us and asked why we were at the launch so early..these guys must've forgotten their radios at home.. So we tell em we'd just talked to ol boy on the road and he said we could just hang out til 4 to launch.. He goes into the whole thing about not being on the property til 4 and all that good stuff but he soon jumps in the boat too and they head on their merry way. So we wait.. Wasn't very long after that we start seeing headlights coming down the road, was other groups of hunters headed to the local duck killin hole as well.. So we proceeded to inform them that there was a green pant sting operation going on that morning and that it was in their best interest to wait to launch til 4.. By 4:00 the lot was practically full of non ticketed hunters.. lol we'd told everyone hey we're back there waiting so not a single ticket was given that morning. Was my good deed for the year. I think they were wanting to nab a buddy of mine that'd built a jam up blind on the back hole on left side but they came away empty handed. Point is, even they don't know what they want you to do.. Where could you stage at? The check station? The turn to bayou Manuel rd? The launch? No matter the place you'll have an unsafe race to the launch to get there first because as we all know holes are few and far between there. And if you want a halfway decent one you've got to get there early and take your chances getting a ticket. My opinion on this subject st Sherb... They should let u get there whatever time you want bc if they really start cracking down they'll end up with drag races in the woods. It's not like let's just say Pearl River, where I got a ticket for getting there early before, that has wide open marsh with a hundred different potholes to hunt in. There are literally 7 huntable holes on the right side of 120.. Story time over kids

Thanks y'all, just put another motor on my ol boat so I'm itching to take it out lol.. I usually do pretty well around there but it's been a few years since I've been. I'll wait til a few fronts come through to go out there and hammer the green trout coming out the cuts in the marsh.

Yes, that was 95% open water less than a decade ago. I actually went deer hunting there yesterday with a buddy of mine. And I'm glad I quit hunting there after riding around the area a little bit. He told me there were at least 20 boats lined up at the boat launch opening weekend and no one was launching until 4 o'clock because of the game wardens. I can only imagine the mad dash when the clock hit four to get to the seven hunting holes LOL.
