Left the dock yesterday at 3 and got back at 6:30 with 33 pretty trout. Going again tomorrow. All on chartruese plastic under a cork.

Very cool to limit out on specks and reds saturday morning in Lafitte. Fall patterns are beginning to show.

Nice day yesterday for the first trip on my brother's new boat. It does indeed catch fish.

May 16, 2013 at 11:29am

Had a productive 3 days of fishing. Finished with the wife and 17 pretty trout. Happy Easter oops, I mean happy spring festival!

March 30, 2013 at 4:55pm

Nice trout again today. Of the 28 today, about 15 were females and 1 had roe! It is starting to happen! Going after them again tomorrow and then after redfish on Saturday.

Caught 80 or so pretty trout near Barataria Bay yesterday. Kept our 2 man limit and tossed the others back. We had very few undersized fish. Looks like the season is on! We fished pretty hard in 4 or 5 places for about 6 or 7 hrs and found fish at every place. Fish caught mostly on a slow roll using matrix lemon drop and chartruese cockaho on a 1/4 oz yellow head.

We had a fantastic day on the water in Lafitte on Wednesday. Capt. Scott Poche took us fishing and despite windy conditions, put us on trout all morning long. Capt. Scott is a knowledgable and expert fisherman as well as a nice guy. He showed us step by step of what he was looking for and why fish would conentrate at certain areas. He pointed out differences in the way the water looks and moves as well as his incredible knowledge of the land and reefs that are no longer visable but hold fish. It is one thing to read an article. Quite another to be shown with your own eyes. We were amazed that we were able to spot the conditions that were right for fish and then catch them. We fish out of laftte often and do pretty well but learned more in one day with him than in two seasons by ourselves. If you are a seasoned angler or a beginner, I recommend booking a trip with Capt. Scott. 504-915-0392
Thanks Captain Scott!

Went back of Dupont late yesterday. Arrived at the spot around 6p. Caught 9 big reds and released another 3. This morning, tried to get out to the bay for some trout but no way! Went west and caught our limit in bay L'ours. Six 20-22 inchers and 4 24 to 26 inchers. Released several big ones. All caught on balck/chartrues gold spinner and Mid 1 black and chartrues and silver and blue. Thanks Capt. Merdoc!

Tough day overall out there today. However, the first four fish in the boat came in perfect order. Red, drum, trout and flounder. I read about this on a post last week and only imagined the circumstances for it to happen. Now I have a great memory. It can be done!

I hear thru rumor that crab fishing is closed in some areas down river. The number of traps in lafitte is sickening. In particular, the pen and bayou dupont are covered up completely. It won't be long before crabs are fished out. Any ideas on this subject?

Great time on the water today with my buddy Drew. He is pictured with a few nice trout caught in little lake. Fish caught on H & H black w/chartruese tail and chartruese w/red tail under cork.

Just like any other accident, insurance is helpful. If there is a way to hold the owner of the pipeline liable, and it is worth it to a deep pocketed insurance company then the fight belongs to them on behalf of you, their customer.

A comment titled: Sight fishing in response to a report titled: Lafitte redfish question

take your time and learn a small area with your trolling motor. Approach the same small area from different ways to learn it. If you can get thru it with your trolling motor then you can run thru it on a plane. If you are on the troll motor, be careful when heading down wind as you can get pushed into some very shallow water without quite realizing it and have a lot of trouble getting back. Many other suggestions but best if you learn yourself. Take your time and concentrate on one very small area without regard to how many you see or catch. At some point you will find them in there as you ad to your knowledge and expand your spots.

Nothing like doing business with a local guy raising a family and fishing like we do. He works on motors himself as well as sells and instals new and rebuilt ones. He has stood behind everything he has done for me and my family. 5 motors so far.
Check him out for yourselves.

It helps to have clean water. I couldn't believe how clean the water was in Barataria Bay! Left the camp at 2 and back by 5:30 with this limit.

This morning early at st mary's point pillings we caught a couple pretty trout with others fishing around us. This idiot with a woman and two kids motors up to the exact spot where we were fishing and easily within regular speaking voice. I asked him if he realized that we were fishing where his boat now was. He asked me if I thought I had a reserved spot. We laughed and kept our cool. After waiting thru 2 waves of weekend warriors, the area calmed down and we caught some really nice trout. We placed 1st and 2nd in the speck catagory at the EDG tournement at C & M. I have practiced not letting clueless fisherman get to me. I have made the mistake of getting too close or otyherwise disturbing another fisherman but was apologetic as soon as I realized what I had done. This guy was literally clueless!

A comment titled: Gas Vs Diesel Pickup in response to a report titled: gas vs diesel

One man's opinion based on personal experience as I had an F250 4 door long bed diesel. It was a great truck but I did not need the power it offered very much. Every now and then I would tow 10000 lbs or so for a short distance to a local jobsite. I still do that now with my 250 Express van with a 6.0 V-8. The repair and maintenance costs on the gas is less than half and the fuel is cheaper if you do the math. The diesel is much more expensive to purchase as well. Bottom line, unless you need the diesel for the excellent towing capacity, stick with gas. It sounds like a larger V-8 on a 150 will do just fine. By the way, my 2003 6.0 V-8 250 Express has 227000 miles on it and going strong. Good luck.

American Angler. A little pricey at $50.00 but will last forever and clean 10lb reds with no problem. Easy to hold the trigger down when pushing thru bigger fish.

Nice job finding the fish. That area is not fished much off of bayou norman. Usually bay round is the place on that side. I don't think I have ever read a post on spoonbill bay. I guess it will now be the new hot spot.

You can actually untangle a major bird nest with power pro line in a couple of minutes. 20 and 30# test is all I use.

Thanks Capt. for continuing to post from Lafitte. We are taking these last days and this week to catch up on some work instead of being down there. New ice machine, new monster 25ft aluminum w/225 etc. We are hoping to put the new boat to work with the spill but may end up with a great fishing boat instead. We should be back down sometimew this week and will post a report and pictures. Thanks again as the Lafitte area conversation has dried up on this site.

Thanks CaptJS. That is exacly what we looked for this morning. We got a late start. The wind was up a bit and the water was already dirty. Fished with shrimp on the bottom at bayou dupont and caught our limit of drum in under 2 hrs. No secret there. Others were doing well on the lee shoreline with shrimp under a cork. Back working on the boat shed by 11a. Can't wait for the trout.
