Looking to bring my son fishing at the pool for the first time. Has anyone been there lately, if so can you give me a few tips on baits and which launch, I hear they have 2 launches now.
Thanks in advance and god bless.
A friend invited me to do a lil early season bow hunt up in Homer, LA this past weekend. The weather was rather warm, but the last thing on my mind was crossing this guy. I've never crossed a rattle snake before ever, I've only seen them at outdoor shows.
I was within 15' of stepping on this guy with my tennis shoes on. I had just finished moving my climber for an afternoon hunt and was walking back to my bike as a heard a rattle noise but I thought it was a locus or dragon fly stuck in a spider web, well after noticing no web around I listened a little closer and realized it was coming from the ground, well to my surprise there this snake was about 15' away like I said.
The taxidermist said it was a timber rattler
I'm 6'5' it measure roughly 6'1' its head was 3 1/8' wide with 16 rattles and it weighed just under 10 lbs
Do you guys have any idea what's the largest on record here in Louisiana? Just curious as to if this is a common size or if I have a real trophy.
Hey guys, I'm looking for some feedback on the Massimo 700 UTV. I'm looking at purchasing one from Tractor Supply. It will be used for deer hunting but I'm not one to abuse my equipment. I was wondering if anyone had one of these and how they liked it (pro's & cons).
Thanks in advance for yalls assistance.
I'm looking for a little information from my fellow sportsman if possible. I'm looking at purchasing some property in Magnolia MS, which is in Pike County. Does any one have pros or cons about the area? Your input is greatly appreciated.
Hey guys I'm looking at purchasing some land near Picayune MS has anyone ever hunted that area. I'm trying to find out the deer quality and quantity in this area. the property is located off of Dummyline Rd onto Lauren Necaise Rd Any help pros/cons would greatly be appreciated...
I made a call to a friend of mine on Friday to see about bringing my son to shoot some specks on the weekend. Well he made it happen on the last morning of the season, it wasn't the best of conditions with the fog and rain but we had to take with mother nature gave us and be happy. We ended up telling many stories and sharing memorable hunts. I told them one particular story about me killing a speck in the marsh with a band, and that when I sent the info to Wildlife & Fisheries it came back and ended up the bird was banded on my birthday, which I was like what are the odds of that. So we continued telling stories and shooting a few birds in between. Well my buddy Seth calls in this one loner speck and he has him about 10 yds above us coming in on a string, jumped up and piled him up, Abby retrieves it and low and behold it has a band. Well these days you can go on the internet and put numbers in online, so my lil cousin Ricky does so, and low and behold this bird was banded on my birthday as well 6 years ago, everyone was silent in the blind for a second, just as in shock as myself, all I could do is just look up and say, I'd rather be lucky than good anyday and of course they had a few choice words for me lol. So we proceed with the hunt and Ricky calls in this Blue with his mouth and he has it locked up like no ones business, so we let my son Christian take it and he smokes it, Abby goes retrieve it comes back and it has a band on it as well, so now Christian has killed his first banded bird, and of course Dad rubs it in to the other guys and says 'the apple doesnt fall from the tree' huh guys. It was banded 13 yrs ago, so all in all I'd say we had another memorable hunt to tell down the road someday. Great thanks to Seth and couisin Ricky for decoying the birds in and Congrats Christian on your first piece of jewelry in the great outdoors!
Guys I have question, some may think I'm crazy but here goes. I was bush hogging my food plots earlier today and all of a sudden it wasn't cutting anymore, but what I don't understand is that the PTO was engaged and spinning and when I would accelerate the throttle the PTO did also like it should, but the blades wouldn't turn. I checked them after turning the PTO off and they were free and not locked up and it had oil in the housing, when I opened the over fill bolt oil came out just a little as it should. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks and happy hunting is right around the corner.
Had a great trip this weekend with the family, ended up with a total of 49 cats ranging from 20lbs to 44lbs. Many hours of cleaning might I add.
I enjoyed watching the new show 'Chaising Tail' last night. Don't you guys wish it was that easy over here, rake the lawn, then sit on the back porch?
Had a great weekend of making memories with my boy, as we shot our limits of teal both Saturday and Sunday in Lyons Point. Birds were plentiful in the area. Can't wait till the next hunt!
Can anyone tell me what was the guys name and number that has the chopchop in Lake Arthur? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thinking about going fishing in Miami Corp out of Gary's Landing Saturday, anyone hear of anybody catching a few fish. Thanks in advance and tight lines to all.
Hello fellow sportsman, I'm in need of a guide that would be willing to donate a 1 day fishing trip for two. I'm trying to help a co-worker of mine out, he has a grandson that is three and is battling Leukemia, and it's putting a strain on the families finances, as we all can relate to i'm sure. They are having a benefit for him this Saturday in Youngsville, LA and I would like to have a trip auctioned off at the live auction. If anyone is willing to help out with a donation of a trip please feel free to contact me @ 337-837-4381 or e-mail me @ rbreaux@aluminumandstainless.com with the deatails and what the trip is worth . Thanks in advance Russell
So how many guys you think were upset with this cool spell coming in last nite, day before the pool opens?
It's time for me to replace my two trolling batteries again. The current ones I have didn't last very long, they are some interstate batteries. Any one have recomendations on some good 27 series batteries. Thanks and tight lines to all..
After many trips to the woods with my baby girl, we finally got her first deer. It should have been a week earlier but I was trying to make it to perfect for her and capture everything on video. We had deer come out on us several times but never presented us with the perfect shot, finally we had a couple does come out and after getting her set up and ready for the shot, the bigger doe stepped behind a tree. So I tell her dads going to grab the camera and record it for you, of course the camera wasn't facing the right shooting lane so I decided to take it off the tripod and video it by hand. While trying to watch the deer keep an eye on her and get the camera I forgot what I was doing and the release on the tripod slipped out my hand and made that little clicking noise, and low and behold the deer blew and jetted. It was a sad moment for her but she said dad it's ok it's a team effort and I would have missed anyway probably, but I knew she was hurt and didn't want me to feel bad, because that was about the lowest low in my life knowing I screwed up her first chance. It was silent for a few minutes so I looked over her shoulder and I seen tears running down her face then it really hit home that i screwed up, and I said to myself if it's the last thing I do this hunting season it will be to get her that first deer. So the next weekend came around and I said we leaving the video camera at the camp and we shall take pictures when we return to camp with the deer, and she was like thats a deal dad. There we were that afternoon on stand and a young deer came to the rice bran, I told her ok baby hers your chance at your first kill again, so we setup on the deer and I told her when she's ready let it bark, well it barked and dad wasn't ready and scared the hell out of me. It wasnt the best shot but it got the job done, we tracked it for about 80 yards and there it layed dead, then the tears started rolling down dads face to see his baby girl with so much joy in her heart. Congrats Lauren on your first kill sweetie, love dad.
Does anyone remember what was the site that had the feeding times that was posted a couple of weeks back? I saved it to my favs but my computer crashed and I lost it. Thanks
Well I didnt have any luck with the bow Saturday, but my son Christian had a different ending. While I was bow hunting for deer or hogs, he was hog hunting with his rifle and as luck would be on his side he scored his first hog ever a 378lb boar. It was awesome to be there and experience the excitement with him.
I don't think we have a shortage of coons and hogs out in the Cove where I hunt. These hogs went through 800lbs of spoiled corn in two nights.
This is what I think!! See attachment cheers!!
We spray straight bleach and yes its works 100% for a couple months at a time and doesn't bother the deer simply because they don't keep there nose to the ground like a hog does.
The best thing I've ever found to work was bleach yes bleach. The best thing is the deer don't seem to mind it at all. What happens is the hog comes in with its snout down on the ground and the bleach burns them, keeps them away for months. I spray normally once a month just for insurance.
Probably gonna spread them very thin all over or push them out the area, I would say.
I bought this table from a guy in Gueydan, la

Speak to Mr. Kenny they are great people
Yes that will be a vey memrobale hunt for years to come for me and my son.
I read that same story. Don't ever think it can't happen to you or a loved one. Happy hunting and stay safe guys and gals.
That's a heck of a deer for Acadia. I hunt in Robert's Cove, where did you kill that deer at?
Over the past year the dog has gained about 20lbs and gets the same amount of food he always did every day. The problem is he's more laid back and nothing gets him excited anymore, he used to run around in the yard chase squirrels and things like that but since the cutting he's not interested anymore. it just calms them down alot.
My brother had his hunting dog fixed, and like you're worried about it staying agressive they don't. All his dog wants to do is eat, sleep and poop all day. it probably gained 20lbs since he's fixed, dont get me wrong he still trails deer but nothing like he used to.
We make our S hooks out of 1/2' rebar, and it has held many of large catfish while being cleaned.
This one doesnt have a shear bolt, its a newer one that has like a release when it hits something. I checked for a shear pin also, just forgot to mention it in the original post.
Needs to be a dead one, whatever kind it is!!! I hate working in woods this time of year because of them.
Nice catch, congrats.
Here are a few pictures from this past weekend.
Caught another 59 this weekend at the deer camp, ranging from 15 to 40lbs.
Gonna try our luck again this weekend and see what we can do.
We used live crawfish, shrimp, and ivory soap for bait. We were fishing with jugs and trout lines but wind was pretty bad so we picked up the jugs and just fished with 2 trout lines with 25 hooks on each.
Bigjim I've attached aerial photo of the property
