My son killed this beautiful buck Saturday morning. I hunted Friday morning and caught a glimpse of him at about 100yrds crossing a lane. I just didn't have time to get a shot before he was across it. I told my son to hunt there Saturday morning and be ready!! Well he got settled in at 6:15 and at 6:44 this beautiful buck stepped out at 50yrds crossing that lane. After he shot the deer he went and got help to load it so he could surprise me with it, as I had slept in that morning! I'm so happy for him he's put years in and he's killed a lot of bucks for a 17yr old. But this one is by far his best!!! I told him McMillan Outfitters can guide that good!! Lol.... 17' inside spread 9pts counting the 1-3/4' sticker off the left base. Weighed 218 lbs.

I know that everybody wants to update there sites, but the changes to the classified are terrible... All there is now is a title. I would compre it to walking in your local grocery store and finding EVERYTHING in brown boxes labeled food. You would have to pick a box, take it home, open it, and hopefully you like whats in it. At least before all these great ideas of change came along you could see the product and have a good idea where it was offered or located. I know someone spent alot of time making these changes, and im sure they think they're great. But I think it waists a lot of my time and I think you are going to lost loyal customers and fans of the site. Sometimes less is better and why fix whats not broken.

Has anyone ever tried the sac a lait fishing at Okissa. I hear there is some slabs in the lake, I have only fished it a few times and wouldnt know where to start with it having so much structure. Any advise or just conformation that there is a fishable population of sacs would be a great help..

Went out to try our luck yesterday at the Rigoletts, started at the tresle bridge and never left. The Bull Reds and the giant sheephead kept our arms wore out. We kept a few sheephead and the occasional trout to cook for dinner, but the real fun was the arm killing fights the bull reds were putting on us. We must have released 15-20 fish 27-36 inches, All caught on 15lb line with 30lb florocarbon leader on crab and 5-8in croaker.

Just a warning NEVER buy a turkey hunt with TEXAS LTD HUNTING!!!! A good friend of mine and my son went to texas with me on a hunt this week. We were told that we would hear more turkeys in a morning hunt than we would hear all season here. I was also told my 12 yr old son could shoot as many hogs as i was willing to clean. We got there on the 25th and was told hunting was great my friend was even talked into paying another 500 bucks for the right to kill 4 turkeys. the morning of the hunt we were told that we could not move from the deerstand/blind we were put in. they had one hole in the front to shoot through with a feeder about 25yrds out the window. I told him that wasnt turkey hunting to me and i didnt feel right sitting on a feeer waiting on a turkey. Long story short we were never turned lose to hunt, we were put in deerstands or up against a pallet tied to a bush or fence next to a feeder every hunt. the BLINDS were full of peanuts candy wrappers water bottles and shotgun shells. The only upside was that he couldn't watch us both at the same time. I moved 250yrds from his blind and killed a bird 10in beard 24lbs. Chris moved that evening on a bird about 400yrds from his blind and killed a bird 10in beard 22lbs. The man was so sure that we didnt kill those turkeys from the blinds he put us in that he put us in the middle of a cow pasture the next morning with about 60 cows. All together in 3 days of hunting we as a group heard 9 different Gobblers 7 of which were not on his property the only two turkeys seen were killed and we never even saw a hog TRACK let a lone a hog. For 4000 bucks we got the pickle!!

We went down to Dulac about a month ago. Threw a cast net and caught some mullet about 12'' long. We run a wire leader from the tail all the way out the mouth with a 9/o hook, pull the hook up inside the mouth of the mullet so the hook lays flat against its head. We threw out 16 jugs in the canals off the intercoastal about 30 mins before dark and caught 9 the first time we ran them about a hour after dark. The biggest being about 75lbs and the smallest was about 30lbs. Hope this helps you out... I've got enough gar patties to last me till next fall.

A comment titled: hand liner in response to a report titled: Who needs a pole? Rope, metal pipe for weight and a hook!

I too worked offshore as a young buck up till I was about 28yrs old. I did the same thing only I made my hook out of a 3/16 welding rod. I filed a sharp point made an eye and get back I was in buisness. The cook stopped giving up shrimp so I would gently thread a single piece of macaronni on the point and believe it or not kept right on catching. pretty sure it was due to the cook always throwing the scraps over the rail after every meal...

LaRanger Taxidermy... I have two bass mounted by them, 3 others mounted by others and i tell you there is no comparing them. They are the most realistic paint i've ever seen and thats the key to a good fish mount. I have one with the glass base that looks exactly like water exploding with the bass catching a mosqito hawk off a blade of grass. AWSOME MOUNT... Wouldn't go anywhere else.. It's a Hour and a half drive for me but your talking about something thats going to be in your house for years to come..

A comment titled: turkey huntin in response to a report titled: Lake Martin Swamp Gobblers

Wait till next week when the weather warms back up. Go out there at daylight and listen, dont do any calling just sit tight and listen. If a gobbler is on 81 acres you'll hear him gobble, if you are somewhat in the middle of the property. Most gobblers wil gobble at least a couple times before flying down by the first week of March. They tend to gobble best on clear sunny mornings. Some turkeys may not gobble for the first 15-20 mins of daylight, others will gobble when its barely cracking light. Everyone of them is different. Good Luck...

A comment titled: MANAGE THE HERD in response to a report titled: Mississippi primitive weapons

The MDWFP take a hit everytime they make a new law/rule. They can't make everybody happy. That's were the landowner comes in, just because it's doe day everyday doesn't mean you have to shoot one everyday. That only allows the hunter with very few days afield the same chance at taking a deer as the guy that hunts 3 days a week. I manage 1400 acres of timber company land, everyone knows this is not the most desirable land out there, mostly all pine and very little plantable ground. Through a lot of hard work and years of trigger restaint we have turned this once seldom visited by deer land into a whitetail wonderland with 10-20 deer seen on a regular basis. We have seen the bucks go from small little dinks to a age of 1.5- 4.5. The biggest problem clubs have is they try and make everyone happy. This cant be done I've tried for years. We have seen more results when we made these simple rules, We only take mature bucks 3 and older with the exception of kids one legal buck per year. 2 does per member until Dec. 24th none after that. And we divided our land into sections and each member gets a section of his own no other member goes on it except him. This has been the game changer for me as a club President and manager, we have had zero complaints no he's hunting my spot or he's feeding to much. Each member does his own thing plants his own plots and if he's not hunting it nobody is. I guess all i'm saying is just because in the regulations that you can hunt with or without a certain weapon, it's still the decision of the hunter to shoot or not...

A comment titled: little to close in response to a report titled: advice

I have had the same problems in the past, seems like everyboby loves the property line. Seeing how its public property I would put a couple POSTED signs up on the property line, and I'd leave him a note that he is shooting directly at your stand and the slough you duck hunt. Nothing wrong with being concerned for your safety and the safety of your family.

A comment titled: texas hunting in response to a report titled: Texas Turkey Hunt

I understand that the drought and the early spring and turkey hunting in general is at best unpredictable. The issue I had with this hunt was the fact that we were told all the way up to the morning of the hunt that the birds were there and on fire. Then when we saw that wasn't the case and we wanted to hunt different than he wanted we were almost intentionally put in obvious bad spots. I had a 12 year old with me that would have been happy with any thing a hog, turkey, or coyote, all of which we were told we would have a chance at. If he would have been straight with us up front that the turkeys were not there or were very scattered and at least let us move 100yrds off his feeders I wouldn't have any problem. I mean nobody can predict 100% sucess like he advertised. We were in Albany Texas and I understand the drought was tough on everything, I wish he would have been upfront with us.

A comment titled: Caney in response to a report titled: caney lake

i've fished caney for years end of May can be tough because its the tail end of the spawn. I have learned that if the fish aren't in the coves move out on the deeper points that have piers in 12-18ft of water and fish plastics slow. End of May you may find huge chiqipin on beds on 5-7ft thats alot of fun they tend to be very spooky.

A comment titled: Hunting the Forest in response to a report titled: Homochitto National Forest

I am a still hunter that has property bordering the forest. I am not against dog hunters I think we all have the right to hunt however we want as long as it is a legal method. This year I have noticed alot fewer dog hunts in our area. In the past we have had ALOT of dogs on our property. This year I haven'tseen or heard dogs on our place. This may change next week with dog season opening back up. I have heard of several people getting ticket for their dogs getting on private land and turning out on private land. The game wardens are out in full force around the forest when dog season was open during first split.

A comment titled: Open it!!! in response to a report titled: The river waters coming?

I think they should open the spillway! The Three River Locks too! I have a camp on Lake Mary thats 20ft off the ground the corp of engineers charged $400. for a elevation certificate. They said go 10ft above this mark and you'll never flood I went 14ft above it. They said this elev. was the lowest point in the levee system. After 2008 flood they built the levee up higher because Angola was in jepardy of flooding so I guess all of us that had these elevation cetificates done can watch as we loss our camps. As long as they dont flood home around Lake P. I say GAP IT OPEN!!!!
