I finally was able to get out on the water when the conditions were right. Today I left the Jug's at 5 and was back at the dock at 10:30 with a limit of solid specks. They were all caught on LSU and avacado Bayou Chubs. I also had my first experience up close and personal with a pelican. I was reeling in a speck and it swooped down a lil to low and got tangled up in my line. Their beaks look a whole bigger when they are snapping at you.

My family is planing a trip this summer to Branson and I want to do some fishing on Table Rock Lake while we're there. If anyone has ever fishing up there or know of any charter captains any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

I wound up putting a good box of fish together this morning. I caught 23 specks and 3 white trout all caught using shiney hiney set-ups. I caught a few over reefs but most were caught working the birds. I tried to catch my last 2 to finish out my limit but after catching over 10 that were 11 3/4' I decided to call it a day.

I'm looking for a recipe/tips for grilling duck breast. I've eaten it this way before and loved it but this will be my first time to be the person cooking it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm about to purchase some new camo (jacket and bibs) and was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations of certain brands. I'm not looking to break the bank but I also don't mind paying a lil extra for a product that will last for years to come. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

My boss is wanting me to take him fishing next week near our jobsite in Leeville and I have never fished out of Leeville before. Can anyone give me any pointers on what areas to try? Of course I don't want anyone to give up their hotspots but a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It was the perfect day. Limited out on specks by 9:00 and then picked up a limit of reds on the way in. I knew it was going to be a good day when the first cast resulted in a double hook up. All specks caught on tandem rigged LSU chubs and the reds were caught on shrimp under a cork.

Is the pickets and mardi gras rigs inside te closure areas?

May 25, 2010 at 6:03am

I'm thinking about making a trip tomorrow night since the tide and weather looks like they might cooperate does anyone have any suggestions on spots to try at night for specks? Has anyone caught any at the rigs yet? Thanks inb advance.

Does anyone know of any online stores/websites with good deals on tackle and other fishing supplies. I usually get all my gear at locally and chain retail shops but I'm curious if I could save some cash by buying my gear online.

Fished Lake Decade Saturday night with my brother-in-law. We got out there around 9:30 fished til around 1 when we gave up. By the time the moon came out and the shrimp started to pop across the water is when the tide died off and the fish shut down. All in all we had a good time get out and put 10 nice specks in ht e box and only throwing back. All fish caught on DOAs under a cork and on bayou chubs tandem rigged. Had a great time and can't wait to get back out there after em.

November 08, 2009 at 9:40pm

I've been thinking about going to Lake Decade one night this week to fish the parked rigs. We usually do pretty good every winter there and I was wondering if anyone else has tried it yet and if the specks were biting in Lake Decade yet. If anyone has any info it would be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance.

It was a windy day in Pointe aux Chenes saturday but at least i was able to go. Don,t really fish this area often because we have a camp in Dularge but didnt feel like fighting Lake Decade in my flat bottom this morning. I ended the day with only 5 specks that were 12 and 14 and it was bout a 2 to 1 ratio on throwbacks. Did anyone else fish this area this weekend with any success?

This may not be a typical type of post on this site but right now we need all the help we can get. My father-in-law suffered from multiple massive heart attacks Sunday afternoon. He had a stent put in his main artery and currently in very critical care. He was put into hypothermia to preserve his organs and body tissue. Also to allow his heart to rest the doctors put a baloon pump in his groin. The doctors will start slowly warming his body being tonight to get it back to normal temp and were praying that his heart and organs will take back over and that all will be well. As I'm sure everyone knows that there is major risks in this type of situation but only time will tell the outcome all we can do is wait. I mentioned that we needed help in the first part of this post I want to make it clear that the only help we need is prayer. I have a strong faith in God and also believe the more prayer my father-in-law and family receives the better it will be. I would like to thank everyone in advance.
God bless you all.

I've got a problem. I've been looking into getting a new boat, specifically a flats shallow water boat. I've narrowed it down to either the Mitzi 17 Tournament or the Dolphin 17 Super Skiff Pro. Does anyone have any experiences with either of these two boats? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

September 12, 2009 at 10:25pm

I would like to start by saying I apologize to any of the charter captains that I may have offended with my last post. I understand everyone that reads most anything will have different perceptions of what it may have read and if i have ruubed anyone the wrong way I'm sorry. That wasn't my intentions and I will be more careful in the future how I word my specific opinions and choose which ones to keep to myself and which ones to post.
Good luck fishing and may your times on the water be great.

My favorite reel that I use now is the 13 Fishing Prototype X. I decided to buy the 300 series last year and try it out. I have been thoroughly impressed with this reel. It was designed to be used in saltwater environments and has an 18 lbs. drag. On top of the it casts great. Would definitely recommend this reel to anyone.

I get a kick out of the 'if I can't fish on private land owners property then my tax dollars shouldn't go to protect the land owners property.' Its a joke. Projects such as these benefit everyone not just the land owner. Projects such as these help to rebuild the land that protect our homes from hurricanes, just as the public drainage protects from flooding. My taxes go to the public drainage systems to help keep your house from flooding so why shouldn't I be able to swim in your pool or benefit from your property in anyway that I please?

Actually by rebuilding the land it removes the ability for even the land owner to fish it, because it is no longer holding the 'public' waters and is once again land. By dredging it deepens the lakes around the property to make the public waters more accessible for anyone to fish. Seems like a good situation to me!

A comment titled: Gator Tail in response to a report titled: Non Stop Redfish 2-7-14

RedBully- Hull size really depends, if all your gonna do is fish out of it or if your gonna use it to frog and hunt out of too. Either way I would go either 17' or 18' long. If your gonna only use it to fish I would go with the 60' bottom, but if your gonna use it as an all around boat I would look into a 54' bottom. I personally have a 1754 Extreme from Gator Tail and I love it. I may wind up getting another bay boat in a few years but I'll never be with out a Gator Tail too.

A comment titled: book a trip in response to a report titled: Looking for help with my First trip to the DU this year

The best advice I can give you is book a trip with one of the many guides in Dularge and let them know that you are not just wanting to catch fish but that you are wanting to learn more about how to fish the area. Most of the captains that I have meet down there seem that they would be more than willing to help you out.

A comment titled: Interested in response to a report titled: Redfish Jackpot?

I'm definitely interested in these tournaments, but if the fish have to be alive that would be a deal breaker. Having to have the extra weight of an ice chest filled with water and all the extra things that system would need would be entirely to much weight and would affect the draft of my boat too much. Like I said earlier, I'm interested but I'd be out if you decide to hold to keeping the fish alive. Just do an ice chest check prior to the boat launching and then you'd ensure its all fair. I also like the idea of randomly switching launch sites to keep it interesting with the different areas.

I know exactly how yu feel I just got home at the end of last week. I'll be making my first fishing trip thursday as well. Like Capt. Elton said fish the 2 lakes and look for birds and also fish the oyster reefs. The typical baits will work but I always have 3 set-ups. Shiney Hiney, swimbait, and tandem rigged Bayou chubs. I'll be out there in a 21' aluminum bay boat with a mercury if you see me out there say hello and I will gladly help out further if I can.

A comment titled: props in response to a report titled: New boat

The higher the pitch the faster you will usually go. I have ran my boat with a 25 pitch and was running mid 60's but it was slow t get on step. The reason I have the 21 pitch double cupped 3 blade on it now is cause it gets on step quickly. I'm able to get on step in the length of the boat almost every time depending on how heavily its loaded down. I also am running a hydraulic jackplate. The thing with propping out a boat you have to find one that will turn up the recommended amount of rpm's for your engine and also find the sweet spot between holeshot and top speed. I would say if the 23 oitch prop is turning up the right wot rpm's and has a holeshot that satisfies you.

A comment titled: 200 opti in response to a report titled: New boat

I have the exact same hull except mine is center console. I have a 200 mercury optimax with a 21pitch double cupped prop. It has an amazing holeshot. It runs around 58-59 with this prop on it and with a 25 pitch it'll do 65-67 but the hole shot sucks! Also with the 21 pitch prop running 4000rpm's(41mph) it only burns 7 gallons and hour. With this kind of performance you couldnt pay me to put a 4 stroke on the back.

I have the same size boat just built by a different builder. I love mine. Its got a center console and a 200 optimax for power. Its a beast. I also have a gill bracket off the transom and i really like that feature. If its not to late in the build process I would definitely look into adding that.

A comment titled: Haynie in response to a report titled: best bay boat

The thing I like about the Haynie boats is that its still a custom boat built how you want it.Not like most fiberglass boat companies were you get how they want it. A good layout is one of the most important things in a boat and not everyone is going to like the same it the same way. Just my 2 cents but if it built how you want it, it makes it that much more enjoyable. Also I wouldn't be afraid of a custom aluminum boat built with a 3/16th hull I've taken mine out as far as 30 miles offshore and it also only drafts 12'

I agree 100%. If I'm fishing with a cork the shiney hiney is what's under it. I first saw them in an article in the sportsman a few year ago and once I tried them I've keep them in my tackle bag ever since.
