No lies were told in the creation of this photo !!!!

The guys from Texas and Lafayette did not get many bites but most of the bites were reds over 20 lbs.

The trout are in the main bayous and canals. Biting on plastic along with gaftops and sharks !

On Saturday I caught a redfish with a CCA Star tag. The tag appeared to be very old but I could still read the tag # (LA 393). Is there a way to tell when and where this red was tagged. I would like to know how big it was and how far it traveled.

March 04, 2014 at 9:07am

Yesterday in spite of 53 degree water temp the reds were hitting gold spoons in 12 inches of water. After catching a couple of limits and a few catch and release we also caught a few nice trout in deeper water on tight line plastic. Reds were caught near Bayou Colyell and trout in deeper canals near off Grand Calliou.

Dulac Report:
The trout are scattered everywhere in the marsh off of Grand Calliou. Cleaned 50 from 2 days of fishing last week. The redfishing still a little slow.

Heading out to Dulac tommorrow for a few days to try and locate some trout (I know the reds are bitting) but haven't caught trout in a while. Any hints or recent reports would be appreciated. I will be glad to share my reports daily. Don't need secret spots, just patterns will do (inside, outside, depth of water or general area. Thanks in advance. Good luck to all!!!!!!!

Anybody have any idea why Last Island is still closed to fishing.

July 29, 2010 at 3:37pm

Why was Grande Isle reopened for fishing and points west remained closed? A few tar balls on Last Isle? I don't think so!!!

My guess is that the folks who have camps and live on Grand Isle have more clout than those in Dulac or Dularge.

The whole La. coast may eventually be closed, but for now let people fish and the commercial fishermen make a living. This is about control and politics. Just like Katrina when the boaters from Lafayette went to help and were turned away. LWFD wanted to show who was in control!!!!

Going to try close in rigs out of Freshwater Bayou on Sat. Any advice or reports would be appreciated. Normally fish Dulac and willing to share recent reports from that area.

Thanks,

The redfish activity has definitely picked up. Caught a limit on Saturday after the rain storm and another limit Sunday morning before 10 AM. The fish were spooky and in a little grass so I used a Gold spoon and made long casts at the wakes.

No need to travel far or fish were it is posted. Just go into one on the hundreds of ponds off of Grand Caillou and go in as far as your boat will go. Look for the "push".

Good Luck fishing, there are plenty for everyone!

Pictured here is Mark and Mark Jr. on Mark Jr.'s first redfishing trip. Mark got practice in reeling in redfish and he neted the 12 lb fish. All caught on black and chartuse H&H cocoho.

December 29, 2007 at 7:40pm

Redfsih bite in the ponds a little slow but all big fish (10 to 13 lbs) so only kept 3. Saw a few fish backs to throw at, but not like fall fishing.

March 03, 2007 at 7:03pm

Doesn't get much better than this! 2 man limit of trout by 8:30 close to camp. Redfish limits by 1 PM in shallow clear water!

Hey Marty, can you share the details on how you converted the Ridgid saw to use the fish blade. I have been
wanting to do this!

Thanks

A comment titled: Re: Electric Filet Knife in response to a report titled: Electric Filet Knife

Over the years and after a couple of dozen Mister Twisters I decided to take a couple apart (both models) to see what the problem was. It turns out that the plastic gears were not worn out, instead it was the plastic part that moves the blades back and forth. After a short while this part is worn so bad that the blade just vibrates rather than reciprocates especially if you put pressure on them. So it appeared that the blade was dull when it was not thus sending me back to Academy for new blades at the cost of 8 bucks. The knife will finally burn out from overheating and thus sending back to Academy for a new knife a the cost of 20 to 30 dollars depending on the model. I know ' fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!' I finally stopped buying the mister twisters. I have a feeling the company knows of the problem, but why kill the golden goose!

I just read the reports on the new American Angler that sells for $150 dollars with the extra blades. It sounds like it can clean redfish with ease but folks are having trouble with the trigger. It they fix that and my Rapala HD quits I will consider the new American Angler. If Rapala comes out with a trout blade I would buy that too.

I know everyone has their own favorites and opinions. That being said here is mine. I have been cleaning redfish for 30 years and have tried them all and up to recently none lasted or cut well on redfish. I have found one that I have been using for the last two years and is the best yet. It is the Rapala HD for about 60 bucks at Academy, it has a powerful motor that does not overheat and aggressive blades that cut through ribs of redfish. Do not get the cordless model or the 'regular Rapla' ! The only draw back is the blades are almost too aggressive for trout so I use my old mister twister for trout only. You can even get a longer blade for the Rapla HD online.
I do not work for rapala but am glad someone has made a electric knife for redfish!

A comment titled: Tides in response to a report titled: Tide Question

The tide charts for an area should be used as a guide only as the wind direction, time of year and barometric pressure affects the actual tide movement for any given day. For instance if a strong cold front is blowing thru the north wind is going to push water to the gulf along with high pressure behind it and the tide may not come up as predicted.

Sorry Kenny , your report had too much common sense and not enough drama to draw much comment from the sour pusses and jealous individuals who just want to stir sh##. That's their purpose - not really the issues they pretend to have with whatever. I just ignore them, they hate being ignored!!!!!

A comment titled: The stars have aligned !!!!! in response to a report titled: Strugling in DU

OK, here is the report I promised. After 2 days of rain we were finally able to go out Thursday PM and Friday later morning. Found beautiful water in lower Grand Caillou, light winds and somewhat high water with a little falling tide. Caught reds near the grass in shallow water and trout in and around drains and points near deep water. All tight lining plastic cocahoes. I don't think the color or brand mattered but we used anything with chart tail with good action.

Released several 10 lb reds and kept 8 to clean. Kept 34 trout including several over 2 lbs. The cool water has all the fish fighting like crazy.

With the prediction of light winds for the next few days and the tide movement predicted this coming week could be off the charts!

In my opinion lower Dulac is under fished as we only saw a couple of other boats. So my honey hole covers about 25 square miles of water in and around Grand Caillou!!! Hope to see you on the water just be courteous

A comment titled: Share the wealth in response to a report titled: Strugling in DU

And wouldn't be nice if these guides would routinely share some helpful current info on what patterns are working, like general location (deep in the marsh, large bays or offshore) and maybe depth of water. And methods like slow or fast retrieve or tight line or popping cork.

I am not looking for their 'honey holes' just info that true sportsman would share to save a little time for those who can't get out everyday.

These free 'reports' they post basically just promote their service and lure manufacturer.

If you fish the right location with the right technique all of the plasics will work!

But that's just my opinon based on 40 years of fishing. Good Luck and go often !!!!!

A comment titled: No Gnats in response to a report titled: Gnats

You don't have to worry about gnats in the summer time, that's when the deer flies come out. Use high percent deet to keep them away or wear long pants. The deet works on the gnats too, (October thru May).

I have a camp in Dulac and have been looking for trout closer in but no luck. Last week end we fished Dog Lake, Pelican Lake and Moncluese Bsy with not luck on Trout. I believe folks are catching trout further off shore but the weather is a big factor. We had a West wind and the water was dirty. If you get a light south or southeast wind Saturday you should be able to find trout off the coast in the open areas. Where do you fish for Sacalait?

Try north shore line of Weeks Bay for reds. Artificial with spinners. Let us know how you do.
