Just wanted to share the photo of the largest deer i have ever had the opportunity to take down. I got it in Big Wells, tx. He scored 159 3/8, it is the second largest 8 ever harvested on the 1400acre ranch. This was a high fence place but for the record,he is a native deer. The owner bought this place years ago and fenced in the deer herd that was already in place and managed the herd. No DNA or A.I, this is about as close as you can get to a low fence hunt in a high fence. Its way more challenging to get animals like this out of a WMA or a reseve, in fact i killed a 132 7/8, 8 point out of a WMA, some people still dont beleive me when i told them it came from the wma down the road. But in all, i enjoy any type of hunting and will harvest any legal game regardless of location. I just hope that the new antler restrictions being set by WMA will start producing nice, heavy horned bucks for my kids to harvest. Happy hunting fellow outdoorsmen....

I started to pack it up but i decided to tuff it out and try my luck anyway. And at about 8am....SURPRISE SURPRISE !!!! he never stood a change against my jelly head choke and best on earth browning maxus...lol

Well had another great morning of killing some teal. As always I brought my best friend with me, and after the calling, we had group after group come in. We let a few lite in the decoys and tried to get him to shoot, but again he wouldn't shoot. We still havent got him to shoot a decoy in the pond but it is on my to do list. We almost had him try to take out a mojo, but he still wouldnt....But thats ok dude, i love you and will be more excited then you will be when you get your first duck!

Me and my boy went for his first time duck hunting this past weekend for the teal hunt.I woke him at 4 to start getting ready, and the only reason for 4 was because i know he's not very quick in the morning, or so i thought he wouldnt be(He was in a hurry that morning....). My buddy is a die hard duck hunter and has been pumping him up for a duck hunt.I'm not into duck hunting but, being the dad that i am, i sucked it up and brought him on a duck hunt. We got to the spot and waited for the the sun. Just as the sun came up the teal started pouring in. And with him wanting to duck hunt way more then i wanted to, i waited for him to take the first shot, but my poor little guy wouldnt do it..... I tried and I tried to get him to fire off a shot, out of that brand new little 410 pump i got him but, no luck....I kept calling and the teal kept coming......But no luck.... I figured after awhile he was having more fun watching the teal come in, but he looked at me and said dad shoot... shoot. So i jumped up and fired a few rounds... I got my limit and i could have got his too but, that wouldnt be very sportsman like in my opinion.... My little dude may not have fired a shot or killed his first duck but, I sure did love the hunt with him......

WMA

Well,I managed to get a hog this morning to add into my freezer. This seems to be a pretty good year,so far.All I have left is the lotto hunt in lake ophelia.WMA's seem to be pretty good for me and the rest of my hunting buddies. In all 11 hogs and 1 deer. There would have been more deer but there were a few misses....lol...Atleast it wasn't me missing.

This was taken off of public land. I was not big into hunting public land because of all the people hunting within 100 ft of me. But if you can find a good spot it sure does pay off......

Great looking horns to, I found a 3pt this weekend as well but didnt have a tag to get a name. First thing i did was post it to Facebook to find its owner. My words were the same as yours 'might be a kids'.I havent located the owner yet, but atleast we know were giving them a shot at it, I would hope if i dropped mine, someone would be doing the same thing we are.

Your a better man than me Todd, He would have got way more then one head shot... I'd have nothing but the story to tell, a picture of the outcome of our paths crossing would have been pointless.... Id get it mounted streched out, to keep under my coffee table. Glad you didnt get bit...

I see all the post and see it has gone crazyyy.... I didn't mean to get everyone all pumped up. I appreciate all the congrats on my buck, I can't wait to get the mount back. BUT.... For the record, the largest 8 point ever killed was 183, 23' more then my 8. That's not much, after all, I have a WMA 8 point I got a couple years back, only shear luck got me that one. 'Long story short, 60 yards with 3 1/2', OO buckshot.. One pellet in the neck and one in the gut, 16 pellets were unaccounted for.' He was 132 7/8 and he was a massive 8. To be honest with all of you, this is the 4th buck I've ever killed, I've always shot for the meat... Can't eat the horns, no matter how long you boil them, they still are unedible.. I will also be honest about where I kill, no reason to hide great places to hunt, everyone needs to enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer us..... On a closing note, a cold front will be here next weekend, so I hope everyone is planning on making a gumbo at the camp like I am... Happy hunting fellas!!

The chocolate horns are a nice touch on his rack, he's going to make a awesome mount. I have the guy mounting him in a straight semi sneak. I dont wanna hide either side with a left or right turn.

The owner had 200 management tags and I was able to use a rifle for this hunt. I killed this deer this past saturday 10-6-12. Just before the cold front pushed in. Thanks

next time you run across marks like this take a pic of the track that was left. Tracks will tell you what it is before scratches will. I would think these are man made thou, the scratches go strait up and down, an animal would be pulling towards them and make more of a diagonal scratch. I see one scratch that is diagonal but that one looks different then the others...just my opinion thou

A comment titled: snake in response to a report titled: Snake ID ?

its a non-poisonous snake, but still, any snake could scare a kid. Myself, I dont try to teach my kids different poisonous or non types of them. A wrong identification could prove very bad. But for your knowledge here in the US, 99% of the snake that have green are typical some type of king snake or grass snake.I say 99% because you never know what someone may have turned lose.....
