I have a hunt in the morning on Mandalay NWR . Does anyone know for sure if the flood gates are open at Cannons boat landing or should I prepare to come from the Firestation Landing in Houma . I had heard that the gates were closed a few weeks ago . Thanks , any help appreciated.

Just wondering if anyone has any experiance with getting your hunting retriever fixed.Spayed/Neutered.Any pros or cons.I have heard that it calms them down some but how does it affect there drive or overall mentality.I am thinking of having my 2 year old female fixed as I never have any plans on breeding her ,but dont want to screw up.All replies appreciated.

Hello everyone.I am having a problem with my 23hp Briggs on my go devil, and was hoping some of you may be able to help me out.My engine is only three years old and has never given me any trouble.Towards the end of last season it strted acting up on me.The motor will run great on the trailer. When i put the boat in the water and start my run it runs perfect, but after about 10 minutes or so it starts to slowly lose power almost to the point of stalling out.If it does stall it starts right back up takes off very quickly but almost imediately loses power.I am dumbfounded as to what it could be,because like I said I ran it on the trailer for about thirty minutes this morning and no problem at all.Went put her in the water and just like clockwork after about 5 minutes started acting crazy. So apparently it only does this after it warms up a little and when it is under a load in the water.I know of at least two other people right now that are having the same problem. The season is quickly approaching so I really need to work this out.Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Denny

Just a question maybe some of you guy's can help with.Is it legal to have two loaded guns in the blind? For instance one with duck loads and one with goose loads on the side, just in case.I say no way because it seems almost the same as hunting without a plug.My brother says he believes it is legal.I cant seem to find anything in the regulations pamphlet on it.Maybe someone knows the answer????Good Luck Everyone

I am looking for some some help guys and gals. This is my first season to hunt without a lab in many years and it is killing me.I need to get a new pup badly.I was hoping some of you hunters may have up coming litters or know someone who does. Please let me know.I am looking for a high quality pup with a good pedigree and preferably both sire and dam being proven hunting retrievers.I bought my last pup about 12 years ago for 350.00 and she was off of gator pioints dirt road sport , a very good dog who provided me with years of hard work and companionship.I saw someone advertising in the classifieds from anyone heard of them? They have a litter about to be born that they are taking deposits on ,but they are asking 750.00 a pup. This seems a bit steep to me ,but I havnt bought a pup in 12 years. What do you guys think?Any help or comments in finding my new best friend will be appreciated.

Looking for some opinions on the best "fast grass" to buy.I am currently rigging up a boat blind and would like to know what others are using.Do the ducks work in ok to boat blinds?Do you recomend mixing in some other native bushes with the store bought blind grass? There are several types on the market Academy has one called blind grass for around $45.00 for four 4 x 5 sheets,is this stuff any good?

October 16, 2006 at 6:24pm

Just wondering how common mixed breed ducks are.How many of you have killed one,and what type was it?I have heard of a few over the years but never taken one myself.A friend of mine killed a mallard/pintail mix last season ,it was beautiful having characteristics from both species.

I was just wondering if anyone has any insight on how they came up with the east and west zone season dates .For the life of me I cant come up with any logical explanation as to why the southern half of the state opens first.Ducks migrate from north to south right? So they have to pass through the northern part of the state first right? So lets open the southern part of the state first? Now i have enjoyed a great deal of good hunting in early November over the years,so i am not really complaining,I'm just questioning the logic. The east (north La.) zone gets to hunt later into Jan. when the majority of the ducks are in south La.,But we(west zone soth La.) get to hunt the early part of Nov. when the majority of the ducks are in north La.?Maybe thats why the northern half of the USA opens way before the southern half because ducks migrate from north to south.I dont know,i just dont understand the logic of the L.D.W.F.

Hunted P.A.C. this morning and only shot 1 teal.It was the only one that gave us a shot.Saw about three or four other groups of teal but none came close enough.Had a group of about fifteen coming and then someone shot and they high tailed it in the other direction .Very little shooting in the area this morning. One cool thing that happened was that we had a male pintail come in and light in the decoys. He didnt have all his colors yet but it sure was nice to see him swimming around in the decoys.Later

Thinking of inventing a robo pouldoo, or possibly a robo galinule.Would anyone be interested.I could probably also build a robo spoonbill to bring in the wary smileys.

Just trying to create some good duck talk and story telling.I personally have only killed two banded birds both of which were Wood Ducks. The funny thing is that in the area i hunt we kill very few wood ducks.I have probably killed less than twenty in my lifetime.I have been in the blind when banded teal were killed i think about four times, and just last year a banded specklebelly.Always exciting.A question i have though is has anyone ever killed a banded grey duck.I just know that over the years we have killed hundreds and never seen a banded Gadwall which is my favorite duck.Counting down the days !junebug

Man am i the only one who has noticed a huge increase in the Mexican Whistling ducks around south Louisiana.I used to hear about one now and then but over the last three years or so i have noticed a huge increase in Terrebonne Parish.Have their migration patterns shifted this way or something.I can sit out every evening right before dark and watch them pass over my house. On another note went check out the lease down Dularge this weekend and didnt see any teal. They will be here soon though.Cant wait.

August 07, 2006 at 7:27pm

We are currently looking at picking up a duck lease in the marsh surrounding mud lake and bordering lake mechant down Dularge.Any info on how we ca expect the hunting to be would be appreciated.Do any of you hunt or have hunted this area.Used to hunt down cocodrie and low water after the big fronts was always a big problem but the amount of ducks down there would i think surprise most people. What brings the ducks to the salt water?Pressure,Feed,?I have seen them rafted up in lake pelto before even heard of huge concentrations of birds out around the last island areas Why?Just curious what you guys think and if any one has any info on the Mechant mud lake area. Thanks

The durability of the Mojo's is why I buy them . I find that they both equally catch fish but the life span of the mojo's is awesome . If they were a dolloar more I would still buy the mojo and NO I am not a salesman LOL .

Nice buck for sure . Great habitat and trophy management pays off . No high fences and sure it's a island but we all know deer are great swimmers . Nobody paying 10K to hunt Giles island unless you doing it for an extended period of time . Check the rates on their web site .

If it is a first offense they will get a small fine and a good warning . A young guy I work with was ticketed for the same thing last year and I cant remember exactly but I do remeber the fine being minimal . Kids just dont think sometime man .

As much as it hurts me to say it . Alot of you folks just dont get it ! You are the exact reason that they portray us as a bunch of dumb uneducated swamp people on television the internet etc . when you reason the way you do . If you get on the net and search a few other web sites you will clearly see that your release to the grease philosophy is purely a south Louisiana thing .Come on folks , why do you think you have to go to Texas ,Cali , Florida , Alabama , Arkansas , Georgia , Mississippi , or any other state besides Louisiana when we probably have the most habitat to catch a true trophy large mouth bass ?? . The proof is in the pudding. Put your thinking cap on guys and take your head out of your rear end !

A comment titled: wow in response to a report titled: MONSTERS AGAIN ON THE FROG

I just think its rather bizzare and selfish that his explanation for keeping them is because he has expenses a boat note etc. and until his boat is paid for he is on a catch and kill as many as he possibly can mission because he has expenses . All I can say is wow , what sound reasoning . If you are keeping them because you want to eat some fish and it is legal , cool go right ahead . But man you sound like you are doing it because you are ticked off that you chose to buy a boat. Save these pics to show your kids bro , because you keep pullin em out like that , you will ruin that hole and only have the pics , stories , and memories to share . Nice average size catch for sure , kinda funny they dont have any small ones there only 3.5 plus .

A comment titled: Jerks in response to a report titled: Just Me or do some of ya'll feel this way

Everyone I have encountered have been pure JERKS!!! State and Federal.I never had anything to worry about and most times had a kid with me.Feds dumped all of my decoys out ,two sacks, emptied shell buckets, checked everything they possibly could and when they found nothing promptly left without saying thank you, have a nice day , nothing.Just left me and my ten year old with our stuff scattered all over the levee.I also had a couple state boys stop me while in my bass boat fishing a big tournament one day.One of them got into my boat checked everything imagineable.Treated like a criminal. Finally they made me actually go into my live well and remove my five fish and put them into a dip net so they could count them. You could easily just look into the live well and count them. They were just trying to hassle me and take up my precious time.

Norman is trying to get people with deep pockets to hand money over to him.It is all about genetics.Texas,Louisiana, and other states have implemented the share a lunker programs for the sole purpose of genetics.By the way,i am an auto mechanic. Please disregard manufacturers instructions to check and change your oil in your vehicles!Todays vehicles do not need oil,and will run forever!

A comment titled: Hunters in response to a report titled: white lake hunt

Your right LSU better hunters can call geese/ducks and also realize the importance of rearanging decoys and brushing blinds ,and are usually better shots.Thats why I still think more experianced hunters who make educated decisions will do better on an area that is completely loaded with birds VS.just being in the hot blind of the day.I see plenty of people all the time coming in from various public hunting ares with very little success when some people have sucess virtualy every time out .Speaking from my own personal experiance I now have much better sucess than I used to when they probably had many more ducks in the areas I hunted, but i used to have no clue as to how to hunt ducks and took time and many bad days to learn. Not just luck or lucky location I guarantee you that.Although I guess every once in a while you might just be in the right place at the right time.

A comment titled: Hunters in response to a report titled: white lake hunt

I think it has more to do with some hunters being better duck hunters than others more so than the blind. That whole area is loaded with birds and the blinds are all set up for the same wind direction if I remember correctly.Good job yellow mouth!Sunday morning in Hayes area we managed 7 specks,4 pintail, and 1 greenhead.Pintails were thick.
