First Deer/Bow Kill of the season. Even though its a spike but did weigh 130lbs. Now,
That I have meat in the freezer now its time to wait for the big boy. Shot this deer with a Bowtech Assasin shooting 2' Whitetail Special Grim Reapers. That is the exit hole your looking at in the picture. Needless to say didnt go 30 yds before piling up. Grim Reapers are the way to go and accompenied by nocturnals is always a good touch.

I killed my First deer with a Bow up around the Mayflower Arkansas area on private land last week. I have killed a hog before but this was much more of a Adrenaline rush. Even though it was a button buck at 22 yards. Of coarse I thought it was a descent sized doe but i guess being that nervous, you dont really relize. SHot him with a Bowtech Assassin 75# draw with 100gr 2' expanable Grim Reaper Razorcut SS Whitetail Special. I usually kill 2 to 3 deer every year between rifle and muzzleloader and pretty nice deer as well but It felt like my first deer ever.

I recently purchased a H&R 45-70. I am shooting Hornady's 325 grain bullet. I have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 BDC with leupold mounts. It was mounted by Buck Fin and Feathers in broussard, LA.
The scope doesnt seem to move what so ever. I had a scope mounted from them on my 270 and I seen them use loctite and the necessary tools to mount and have no problems with my 270. But anyway i was sighting in and can't seem for it to group at all not even at 50 yards. I wasnt letting the barrel cool at first then started letting it cool about 4-5 minutes between each shot. I shot damn near a whole box of shells before the darkness caught up with me. Any suggestions on why the inconsistancy. How much would a hot barrel throw it off a couple inches are almost a foot??

They have a place Called Land Of Lakes Plantation in ville Platte the phone # is 337-224-2028.
I brought my wife last year and she shot a few Hogs with her bow. Nice blinds and everything. I think they charged $150 for a 100lb Hog and then so much a pound after that. They also clean and quater it for you. You dont need a fourwheeler or anything they will bring you to the stand.

A comment titled: EGG in response to a report titled: Remington versamax

Just like everyone else I have a 'opinion'.
I have a versa max waterfowl edition, and i have already shot 54 Boxes of shells of of this gun, thats 1350 Shells. I have never took gun apart to clean it in anyway or anything for that matter. I have shot super low brass shells at 7/8 oz. skeet loads to 3 1/2' Stell Shot and never had a jam yet. Just saying this becuase I think when people see ' remington' they think of junk. I can assure you otherwise. Now getting back to the egg of your barrel I believe simply it was a wad stuck in the barrel seems as though you are going through a badluck spell with your gun. I have a Ext. Full Patternmaster on all of my guns and never had any egg issues. I do agree on the hypersonic shells I think remington needs to reconsider those shells. I shot Hevi Metals, and kent Shells. I did have several Kent Shells this year miss fire and one that actually fired and the 4 Shot just literally rolled out the Barrel and low and behold the wad was stuck in the barrel. So if one does fire funny definetly Check the barrel. Also look at the bright side the barrel didnt blow up and hurt you or your fellow hunters.
Good Luck With Everything

Good for you. I have been shooting ducks for 16 years now and very much enjoy the sport. And the last thing we need as sportsmen is ignorant people with shotguns. And just a FYI for a few of the comments IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE!!!!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it...

Like you i gre up hunting with remington shotguns, from the wingmaster to the 11-87 and everything in between. I also have a benelli super black eagle 2 that is a good gun as well. About a month ago i recently purchased a Versa Max Waterfowl Edition. And all i can say i absolutely love it. I have already shot 15 boxes of shells out of it and never wiped it down or anything. From Dove hunting to shooting clays to now most recently shooting teal. And like you when i went to lafayette shooters to purchase it they tried to get me to buy the beretta and benelli, personally i think if i went to get a gun, i did the research and i know what i want. So with that being said i think it was a good buy and no problems yet. But like the previous guy said go shoulder the ones you are considering and see which one fits you better. Also one downside to the versa max only remington pro-bore chokes (which come with it) can be used. Patternmaster, kicks, etc. do not make a choke for it yet. Hopefully soon!!!!! Good luck on your purchase

A comment titled: Gunsmith in response to a report titled: Having trouble with H&R 45-70(short barrel)

I just got gun back from gunsmith.
It was remounted and everything and shot.
Has gun grouping at about 2' at 100 yards.
Which is not all that good as far as i'm concerned. But they say it is just a deffective scope. So i'm going exchange it from the shop i got it from for another and hope that will solve the issue.

A comment titled: Brought it to gunsmith in response to a report titled: Having trouble with H&R 45-70(short barrel)

Thanks for the input. I brought it to my local gunsmith shop 'Bayou Teche Guns' and they seem to think its the scope. There are going to remount scope and put it on a vise at the range and see what happens. I ask them about the 2-peice design of the prostaff he told me that scope is one of the more popular scopes they sell and never have problem with them, even with the kick of a 45-70. I'll no for sure monday when they call me, what the issue is. It sucks because muzzle loader starts tom morning........guess i'll be sleeping in late this weekend.
