Anyone have a gobble report. Haven't been out, but they should be sounding off soon!!!
Bout' the only way you're gonna know is to go out and listen. The birds should be gobbling soon if not already. On that size of property you should be able to hear birds anywhere on the property. I don't know much about that area, but if there is a pipeline or openings that is the place to start. I definately would not do any calling, but might take an owl hoot to see if anything responds. I would check it out several days in a row. They may show up at any time.
Very few successful turkey hunts are like the ones you see on TV... Don't hit them too hard first thing. Usually, if he doesn't come right to you he's probably roosted with his girlfriends or headed somewhere he wants to display. If you can scout find out where they are going from the roost and just get ahead of them. Many times a hen will drag the gobbler away from a calling hunter. If they are not coming your way try to get around them. Also, we hunt almost all day. A good blind set up around 3-4 o'click near the roost area is good idea. Had way more success in the afternoon than in the morning.
Heard 4 this morning. They seemed really fired up. Good thing too since you season is only 2 days away
The woods were rattling up here. Heard at least 6 different birds on our lease. Last gobble at 10am... Went to check out some public land and haven't seen that many people even during hunting season. Didn't find any sign at my old spots so probably the best. I dont feel like gatting shot this year.
