Need to find a launch some where around I10 in the Jennings area. Need to go run a boat in the morning. HELP!!

February 08, 2008 at 6:29pm

Went out yesterday about 1130. Had a limit of reds in about 10 minutes after I got to "the spot" Probably caught 30 or so. Glow Gulp on 1/4 oz lead head was the ticket. Wind picked up,went to 3/8 oz and the bite slowed way down. Back to 1/4 and it was back on.

Any one been on Ophelia since the muzzle loader hunt? Heading up there tomorrow to bow hunt a few days and any info is appreciated. Food, rutting?

December 25, 2007 at 1:12pm

Anybody have any opinions on the Bushnell 1000 ARC range finder? It is new this year. I need one badly for bow hunting (missed 3 deer because not able to tell distance, or as wife seems to think, I am just blind).

Main thing I see in description is it is weather resistant and the more expensive one is water proof.

Drove up to the Bend yesterday for a few hours of fishing. Put in at the 6-mile Bridge. Went to the back and the water was about 60 and fairly stained, not a bite. Headed toward the lake, stopped short (20 mph SE wind). Water temp at the island was 55. Fished in 6-mile all afternoon. Caught 3 missed 3 and saw several others caught. Fish were mostly on the inside edge in 4 - 7 feet and bit spinners and crawfish crank baits.

Good luck

Hey all,

Looking for a lease within 3 hours of Sulphur. Have hunted WMA's and NWR most of the time, but a neck problem is causing me to look for a lease again. Something around Ophelia or the basin would be nice.

A comment titled: sucked in response to a report titled: Coocodrie NWR

Shot a doe on Saturday and it was one of nine killed on the Brooks Brake area. I believe there were 15 total killed on Brooks. Freakin hog sign everywhere. Not near the deer here they used to have.

Thanks for the info guys. I like the state parks but it is next to impossible to get a cabin unless it is 5 months out.

A comment titled: thanks in response to a report titled: Busted my Wading Cherry Today....

Went a few times in my neoprene and it got warm at times. Going to have to start back I guess. Never did real well wading, but did hookup with a trout that was about 30 or so inches and pulled the hooks out of my super spook.

A comment titled: Crowley in response to a report titled: Xpress boat

Thanks for the replies.

I bought a Xpress from Crowley before. The service sucks. Unfortunately, it is either Crowley or Baton Rouge as the dealer in Beaumont is not selling them any more. Will probably buy from Crowley knowing that I am going to the Yamaha Shop in Lake Charles for any motor service and hope the motor is as good as all of the other Yamahas I have owned.

The Xpress is the only one in alunimum that I have found that has the leaning post and/or the taller console.

A comment titled: forgot in response to a report titled: "BIG" LAKE TROUT.

Forgot to mention one thing. When I was guiding, the question I got a lot is why dosen't anyone post reports about Calcasieu on the web. I think now we see the reason. The popularity was all by mouth until the 10 lb. trout became common a few years ago.

I think with them closing the breaks in the levee, the numbers will go down again but the big trout will be back in a couple of years.

Time will tell.

A comment titled: spider web in response to a report titled: "BIG" LAKE TROUT.

That is exactly what it is. Happens every spring. Seems early this year.

Calcasieu is special. It is very "small" as compared to other areas. And Jeremy is dead on, you have to know the estuary to produce regularly. I get skunked sometimes, but I am trying new areas, different baits, etc. There are areas that consistently hold fish at certain times of the year and water conditions play a big part in Calcasieu.

Either fish with a guide a few times to learn the lake or get out there and burn some gas learning it.

BUT, we are all fishing and enjoying it.
