First off. Captian Paul on behalf of all of us louisiana fisherman. I want to thank you for the help that you provide us old low tech users. I searched and it appears that the most recent post about the position of the popular floating platforms is about 2008. Could we get some position updates on the floaters south of Venice. Like Mars, Brutus, and some of the other popular ones in the area. I know there must be about 1/2 dozen that are common tuna magnets within reach say 50-60 miles. Thank you Fox

I am looking for coordinates for the offshore LOOP restricted zone. I want to mark 4 way points on my plotter to make it easier to stay out of there.

I have a Humminbird 1197C SI with the lake maps card. The map is a little limited. I am looking for SP 152 out of Fourchong. We used to fish it when I was a kid. Not sure if it still there. Is there a book with all the passes and rig numbers for purchase?

I want to take the kids Snow skiing on a budget for Mardi Gras week. Does anyone have any suggestions? Driving then hotel or pulling our camper are our options. It looks to me like the Chattanooga area (Roughly 10 hr drive) is my closest Baton Rouge option. Any ideas of places or resorts are appreciated.

A friend and I are looking for a place to take our or two boys 11-12yo deer hunting. We have a place to hunt now but don't see many deer. I am thinking about a ranch to pay to hunt and let them shoot a couple doe or small cull bucks. Not looking for wall hangers or anything fancy. This would be a low budget affair. I just want them to get some shooting before they get discouraged. AL TX?? any ideas??

Trying to take the kids for a few snapper. OCT 23. Is East bay open? What is the web site to check for area water closers? Does anybody know if fuel (gas) can be purchased at Port Eads?

I am not associated with this in any way. FEMA is dumping hundreds of campers and mobile homes. These might make nice camps for someone.
Good Luck

I am taking the kids in the Madisonville boat parade this Sunday. Does anyone in the Baton Rouge area have any beads they want to get rid of?
Please shoot me a Email.
Thank you

We used to be able to load the boat with sheep-head at the rigs out of Tiger pass this time of year. I want to take the kids out for some fast action. It has been years sense I went sheep jerking. Does anyone know if they are still there?

Are there any other Shamrock boat owners around Louisiana. I just bought my 22 and love it. I am thinking of putting a owners club together. I saw one at a camp on Grand Isle recently.

I am taking the kids 3-8&9 to the Rigolets Saturday to do a little perch jerking. where can I put them on a few Sheephead, Croaker's, White Trout or whatever? Just looking for action for the kids. I may bring my 8ft bait trawl. Is the inside shrimp season open and is lake Catherine full of debris?

Thank you

I am thinking about buying a Hummingbird Side Imaging sonar unit. Does anybody have one of these units and use it in salt water? The pics look great on the website. Someone said they were not good in rough water due to the boat movement distorting the side image. I want to use it for trout and rig fishing. I think it will be a awesome tool if it works like they say. It is really no good if it only works in glass smooth water.

I have several friends who have interests in Venice and Port Eads. I am wondering about organizing a small fleet of boats to run from Fourchon/Grand Isle area to Venice. Many of us have boats that are capable of making that run. The problem is that when you get to Venice or Port Eads, you will be a very long way from assistance should you need it. There is safety in numbers when considering a long run like this. Contact me if interested and I will try to get something organized.

A comment titled: Re: Shrimp Trawl in response to a report titled: Shrimp Trawl

Forgive me for 'trawling' up a very old thread. However this is a very informative thread and still current for today's recreational shrimpers. I found this video about trawling for fish with a 120 foot net, The thing I found interesting is the AMAZING video of the boards in action under water. Basically the 900lb doors function the same as our 30 inch doors. You can get a good idea as to what the previous posters say about how important door setup is. I will be painting my doors today for my 16 however I may have too small of boors. They are maybe 20 inches at the most and no tickle chain. After several tries I have forests gump syndrome. NEVER caught one shrimp. Plenty of jelly fish.

We have one of the old 19 Fantail boats with the built in tubes to slip in 1.5' pipes to raise the trawl ropes higher. How tall should the slip in pipes be? DO I tie the trawl line at the top of the pipe? or tie the line to the boat middle cleats and run the line up and through an eye at the top of the pipe. will this reduce any load on the pipes?

My plan is to
Paint the doors
Add a tickle chain.
Cut some galvanized pipe.

Thanks to LA sportsman for keeping archived threads with great info..

A comment titled: Re: LOOP in response to a report titled: LOOP

I can attest first hand that they enforce the zone. Many years ago I wondered in there. I had a crew boat painted all black intercept us and excort us out. They took picks of my boat and said they were not going to board us because we had several kids with us. They were polite but FIRM. There was rumor that they were NAVY SEALS. I don't really know about that didn't have any ID on the boat it looked like a regular crew boat but was flat black and the windokws were dark. Now that I am back fishing the GI area I want to give them plenty of room.
Thank you Captian Paul I will get the charts you rdecommended

I have one in 30-06. I like it but it is heavy. I bought my 68yo dad a Vanguard in 270w a few years ago and he has killed a few deer with it. I would buy another one no question.

Is the gun clean? Many people forget the most important part of accuracy. How many shots do you go through before you run some hoppes #9 through it? Always Always Always clean a bolt action from the breach end and not the muzzle.

A comment titled: 100gr in response to a report titled: 243 bullet what the best

My 8y/o killed two deer and a coyote last year with 100gr Federal out to about 100 yd. dropped all three in there tracks with no exit. I was very impressed. His Rossi single shot grouped the federals the best. The cor-lock were all over the paper. As already stated you need to try several manufacturers to see what shoots best in your gun..
