The boat ramp at Burns Point will be closed for constuction activities for 2-3 weeks. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up so they don't drive all the way down there for nothing.

Mr. Reynolds,
Could you provide us with the aerial waterfowl survey results for either December 2000 or January 2001? Statewide and/or Coastal WMAs would be greatly appreciated. Those surveys aren't published on the LDWF website. There is a summary graph from 1977 to 2003, but the actual survey detail sheet would be more beneficial for this discussion.

Thank you!!

A comment titled: Silicon Spray in response to a report titled: Teflon for trailer bunks

I use silicon spray on the bunks of my trailer and have a 24' offshore fiberglass boat, no problems. I have to start the motors and put in gear and hold the boat on the trailer while being unlatched from the winch or the winch handle will spin out of control.

A comment titled: No-Peep in response to a report titled: no peep sight?

I went to a NO-PEEP after I drew on a deer in low light at 5yds and couldn't see anything through my peep. After I switched I never looked back. Just like other sight aids, the NO-PEEP lets you know if you have torque and makes you bend at the waist instead of dropping your arm for shots from a stand. It also made it easier to shoot with both eyes open, that way you can see the whole picture when at full draw.

A comment titled: PTO Generator in response to a report titled: Generator question

I have a 13kW PTO generator from Northern Tool that I run with a John Deere 790 that has 25 PTO hp and 30 engine hp and have no issues with keeping the frequency within 1-2 Hz for all loads. You will need to have fuel on stand-by cause you gotta run the tractor at PTO speed, so in my case the engine is running around 2400-2500 RPMs and burning around 3/4 gallon/hr. I also installed a Murphy Switch Guage for water temp and oil pressure so it will shut down if either of those get out of safe operating range. During Gustav I was able to run one of my 2 1/2 ton A/C's at a time, 2 refrigerator/freezers, 3 freezers, lights, etc. for 3 days. I have gas water heaters so I don't have that additional load to worry about. I set the generator up in my shed on wedge anchors and ran the driveshaft out through the wall that way the tractor is outside. The noise doesn't bother me one bit as long as I'm sleeping in the A/C. It's just like being at the camp. For me it was a no brainer to not have to maintain another engine and for under $2000 I can run my whole house. One other thing is get one of those plug-in voltage/frequency monitors, it helps to set optimum engine RPM to maitain correct voltage/frequency.

Drew Foam in Arkansas has all different sizes of plastic dock floats and they are foam filled. They'll deliver right to your house. There are at least 10 houseboats that I know of built on these including mine.

A comment titled: Ocean Saratoga in response to a report titled: Second Spill Leaking in Gulf?

To expand on what Chris H posted,

'The Mississippi Canyon 20 A 8-pile fixed platform installed in Federal waters in 1984, was completely destroyed as a result of a mud flow incident during Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. After Hurricane Ivan, the platform was found to be lying on its side, submerged nearly 75% below the mudline, approximately 800 feet from its original location. Estimates for cleanup operations have ranged up to $500 million (Taylor 2007).
As of June 2009, decommissioning and abandonment operations at MC 20 A are the last activity for Taylor Energy which sold and transferred all its other GOM properties to Ankor Energy in 2009.
Approximately 72.0 bbl seeped from the structure between July 1 to September 30, 2008. Three pollution domes were installed over three distinct plumes in May 2009.'

So in short, Ocean Saratoga is working on decommissioning and abandonment of the wells have been leaking since 2004. Nice try skytruth.org, NEXT!!

A comment titled: Guy L and Dog Dude in response to a report titled: HEARTWORMS

I agree 100% with what you both say. I say this from personal experience, my trainer, any retiever forum you read, and most importantly my vet.

I, like you, know very responsible dog owners that have had their dog come up positive using commercial preventative that is why I went to liquid, though my dog still came up positive.

I know I'm giving the correct dosage because I get my liquid ivomec from a vet who mixes it with propylene glycol and it states clearly on the bottle the amount per pound.

Like I've said before ivomec/ivomectin ain't cutting it down here.

A comment titled: Same Boat in response to a report titled: HEARTWORMS

I'm in the same boat. My dog just had her first dose of 'poison'. She has been on liquid Ivermec since I got her from the breeder and my trainer used the same thing but, she still contracted heartworms. I never missed a dose. I did a little research and found that Ivermec is loosing is potency in the south. After the treatmet I'm switching to ProHeart. The active ingredient (moxidectin) is have better success down here. It stays in the blood stream longer than Ivermec. In fact, the reason a previous poster is breaking up the dosage is for that reason, to have some Ivermec in the blood stream for a longer time. The thing is my dog is only outside durning the day and inside at night, but as they say it only takes one mosquito.

A comment titled: I Agree in response to a report titled: opinions

fishinbud,
I agree 100% about the water level. I told Cassidy Sunday that the high water was allowing the continuous riding over the bars and hunting inside all day. I think the LDWF should get a little more data over the next couple of "normal" water years and see what happens. Also there are not the number of ducks that there should be, just look at the Nov. 17 count, 5000 ducks, that's pathetic!!!

Straight from the book: "Self-Clearing Permit required for deer hunting, feral hog hunting, and tent camping only." With tent camping in blue color in the book. There is a self-clearing station on the camp ground at the Wax and is for the tent camping folks.

Just go hunt with big guns, he posted a while back about being on the mallards at the Wax. He has a boat and everything, just a little tight on money. He is looking for someone to split the cost of running a his Prodrive to the Wax to make a hunt. Anyone know how much a Prodrive burns on a trip to the Wax?

A comment titled: 90 degree turns in response to a report titled: Leeville Super Highway

The turns are simply a temporary on/off access to the bridge. Final project will continue south to Fourchon and north Golden Meadow. So unless you are exiting in Leeville you'll just continue going straight. Now it might be 2050 before the Golden Meadow portion is complete but they have to minimize the impact to the marsh and minimize the cost, so they built it so that it need only be built ONCE.
