captain paul, i know you get this question all the time, but here goes.. i have a lowrance 337c (new to me), and i would like to find a set of maps that would cover major lakes of LA, along with toledo bend, and the basin in detail(canal names and depth contours), and also cover LA inshore marshes. is there any creature like that out there? for a decent price?

anybody have a navionics chip for a lowrance for south la or toledo bend that they'd want to get rid of? i just bought a lowrance 337, and i'm trying to get into the marine gps world on the cheap.. ;)

I had always told Camden that if he held out for a decent rack buck for his first buck, I'd shoulder mount it for him. After hunting with me for two seasons, letting MANY bucks walk, he finally gets this nine point.. a month later, a ten point walked out in front of him... now i have to mount two.. lol. At eight years old, I think he's hooked.

hey guys. .i have a buddy coming in from oklahoma to do some deer hunting on my lease, and i was wondering.. do we have a nonresident big game license 3 or 5 day permit?? it doesn't make much sense to spend 300 bucks on licenses for a 3 day hunt.. could someone direct me to which ones he has to get?? can't ask the guy at walmart, cuz he don't know which box to check...

No person shall operate a Class A or Class One motorboat with a hand tiller outboard motor in excess of ten horsepower designed to have or having an engine cut-off switch, while the engine is running and the motorboat is underway, unless:

a. The engine cut-off switch is fully functional and in operable condition; and

b. The engine cut-off switch link is attached to the operator, the operator's clothing, or if worn, the operator's personal flotation device.

anybody know if this applies to a motor that doesn't have a pull out type kill switch? i've got a 1973 johnson 25 hp, and it's not equipped with one..

A comment titled: 3030 in response to a report titled: Best guns for Youths

why hasn't anybody recommended a good old winchester 3030? my 7 year old started hunting this year and I got him a h&r 243, and he loved shooting it, however after seeing the blood trail on his first doe (she went 50 yards without a drop of blood), I handed him the old winchester and he loves it.. he wasn't shooting over a hundred yards anyway... there's also something good about teaching a kid to be able to function with open sites..

A comment titled: disappeared.. in response to a report titled: Disappearing Deer???

we had the same issue around concordia parish last year.. not just us, but NO ONE in the area were seeing deer.. on a club that usually kills 30-40 deer per year, we killed 9. no pics, not nearly the sightings, it was like they just fell of the side of the earth..
this year.. they are back and we have already topped that number in the first month of hunting
this is not a new area, we've hunted it for ten years or so .. we figured we deserved a bad year every once in a while..
don't worry.. they're there, and they'll come back.

A comment titled: nice in response to a report titled: Tensas NWR lottery produces 165-inch buck

he'd have been a good buck next year.. lol..
this is an example of what tensas can do with mature bucks.. i can't believe he survived his first year at that place.. that is one place that REALLY needs some type of antler restriction. i'd be willing to bet that 30-40 percent of the deer killed on that place aren't more than 1 year old. i realize that it can't work everywhere, but antler restrictions WORK in delta areas!

A comment titled: depends.. in response to a report titled: GOLF CARTS

it depends on where you hunt.. if your hunting someplace that gets sloppy, don't even think about it.. buy a good used ranger or mule.. if you hunt someplace like i do and there's gravel oilfield roads everywhere.. they're great!! and a 2wd $3500 cart does fine on that.. bad boy buggies in my opinion are overpriced and parts are expensive.. and NOTHING electrical does well in deep water and mud.. just my experience.. take it or leave it.

A comment titled: remington mdl 600 in 308 in response to a report titled: Really tough question

it's called a mohawk and they quit makin em in the seventies.. but i have one and it is by far my favorite out of all my rifles.. 18inch barrel, hellacious knockdown power, accurate out to 250+ yds. it don't get no better.. you can keep your magnums.. i like my shoulder

A comment titled: 308 in response to a report titled: Rifle

i have a 270 and a 308 and the 308 wins hands down.. i've shot alot of deer with both of them and the 308 just puts em down faster.. i shoot remington core lokt 150 grains in both.. and i will never say anything bad about them.. i tried a box of the fance nosler ballistic tips in .270 and nearly lost 3 deer due to no sign of being hit, and no blood trail.. then all 3 times i found the deer at least a hundred yards away.. all of em hit right behind the shoulder. i gave away 15 ballistic tips after the third one that that happened to. i say stick with the 308. hard hitting and trustworthy to 300 yds. any farther than that, none of the guns you are lookin at are very useable anyway.

A comment titled: does in response to a report titled: Deer Management

if they want meat make them shoot two does before they shoot a MATURE buck. i know alot of people oppose the antler restrictions, but the main benefit is that you see A BUNCH more deer when you don't shoot every one that comes out in front of you..

he's got a hunter ed from texas.. and he's a veteran, which the way i read it, exempts him from needing the course..

A comment titled: put up a fence in response to a report titled: Help! Hogs!

in texas they put up a 5 foot hog wire fence around their feeders.. the deer jump it and the hogs stay out and don't flip the feeders.. don't see why it wouldn't work in this case.. its just gotta be a pretty strong fence
