I have a food plot that is not accesable by tractor. I am looking into buying some disc for my atv (300 Honda). From what I can tell most of the pull behind disc that I can pull with a 300 are not very effective and the ones that do work are to big for my four wheeler. While looking online I came across the groundhog max. I have searched the internet high and low and the majority of people who have used it say that it works well. As you can see from the picture they sure don't look like much. I was wondering if anyone had a set of these and if they really work. I know that they are not nearly as good as a tractor with a set of 5 foot set of disc, but again I can not get a tractor to spot where I want to plant my food plot. If you have used one of these I would really like to hear your opinion.

I just purchased a Garmin GPS MAPS 421 and I am looking for the chip that has the reefs around Marsh Island. Any idea of where I can buy one and the price? Anyone have one that they do not use and wants to sell?

After 16 years of deer hunting I finally got one for the wall. I am a die hard hunter who hunts every weekend and ocassionaly on the weekdays. I had one other chance to put one on the wall, but could not connect. (tree got in the way in the basin) This deer was taken in Vernon Parish on our lease. What you think Buknwrite?

Can anyone tell me what the deer hunting is like near Olla, La.? Just curious about the number of deer as compared to Jonesville, St. Francisville area. What about rack size?

I spent the day scouting Thistlewaite yesterday and I left with more questions than answers. I am hoping that the more experienced Thistlewaite hunters could give me some advice. First of all how the hell do you walk to your hunting spots through all of those palmettos? Do you make trails through the palmetto's are do you just walk through them each day? Next, at other management areas I am used to finding deer trails and finding a tree that I can climb to hunt the trails. I know that it has not rained in forever, but I did not find one deer trial the whole day. I found a spot that I saw a few tracks so I decieded to find a tree to climb, but I feel as though I picked the spot because I could see pretty good. I do not feel as though I am in the SPOT. It seems as though everywhere you walk you see the same thing PALMETTOS! Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I have a moultrie infared scouting camera. The flash is a bunch of small red lights that light up at night.

1st question - Do all of the other infared scounting have the red lights that are visible to the human eye?

2nd question - Can the deer see the red lights.

I am asking, because I have some pictures that were taken by the camera and it appears that the deer are looking at the camera.

All of the information that I have seen says that deer can not see the flash. I am just thinking that if the deer are looking at the camera and the lights light up that they notice the change. Doesn't that defeat the whole point of the infared flash?

I have a scouting camera that has a flash on it. I am thinking about buying a new scouting camera and was looking at the infared flashes. The one that I looked at had a bunch of small red lights that lit up at night. I was wondering if the deer could see the lights when they were lit up?

My grandpa is a very avid duck hunter. He has some marsh land that he normally hunts on a daily basis, but he is getting old and very week. He is a very independent person and is very strong willed. He has not been able to hunt this year due to illness and I am looking for a place to take him to shoot some ducks. I need a place that is very easy to get to and where there are a lot of ducks. I am willing to pay for this experience seeing that this might be his last hunt. If you have a place that offers hunts or know of a good place please send me some info. I live in New Iberia and would like to find a place within an hours drive. Please send me the location and prices.

I shot my first deer with a bow 17 minutes into the season.

September 18, 2006 at 10:50am

I have a Reflex Highlnader bow set at 64 pounds and I am shooting a 29 inch Beman Hunter 400 arrow. I have my first pin set at 20 yards and I am dead on at that range with a 100 grain practice tip. When I put my 100 grain mechanical broadhead I am shooting 3 inches low. I did not shoot my broadhead at 30 yards, but I am guessing that it will be a lot lower at that range.

I was just wondering if this is normal or if there are some broadheads that shoot the same as the practice tips?

Should I just adjust my sights or should I change broadheads?

Can you give me the name of the broadheads that you use?

I am looking to buy a new bow and I need some advice. I do not have a ton of money to be able to afford a Matthews, Hoyt, or one of the other expensive brands. I was looking at buying a Reflex Highlander that is made by Hoyt. They retail for about $350, but I found a place where I can buy it for $315. Do you know anything about these bows or can you recommend a good bow in this price range? I am hoping to pull back on one of the bucks pictured.

IBO Speed 305
Axle to Axle 36"
Brace Height 7.25"
Eccentrics Hybrid
Let off 75%
Draw Length 25 - 30
Draw Weight 70
Bow Mass 3.8 lbs

I have been a few times this year with no luck. My person opinion is that they do not have the deer that they had 3 or 4 years ago. It looks like the season long doe days and the dog hunters are starting to take their toll on the basin deer hunting. I hope the ldwf wakes up and gets rid of the dogs and the season long doe day.

Are those deer typical for the types of deer taken off of that management area? I am guessing that deer like that are fairly rare on the managment areas? I never thought about that angle mike. I was going to ask for the GPS coordinates, but I thought that might be a bit much. I have always heard that if you want to kill deer like that then you have to hunt where they live. I have always wanted to go hunt some WMA's in Illinois, Wisconsin, or somewhere in that part of the world. Hey mike, I think we should start a new Forum where we can swap hunting and fishing trips.

A comment titled: Iberia Parish in response to a report titled: when's the rut

I live in Iberia Parish and have a lease in Vernon Parish.
Deer movement there slows significantly in December. I then do alot of hunting at Attakapas in December and January. I am looking for a place to hunt when it gets foggy and I don't want to have to get in the boat to hunt attakapas. I like the idea that there are not many gun days and that they have point restrictions.

I am very familiar with the checker board, to the east of Duck Lake and the Bayou Long area, to the North of Duck Lake. That is where I normally fish. Where exactly is Bayou Sale? The only Bayou Sale I could find was in the Bayou Teche NWR.

A comment titled: Going in the wrong direction in response to a report titled: Lack of intrest

The LDWF keeps making rules that allow us to kill more deer more often. That is fine for now, but what about the future. We are going to kill more deer now, but we will have less deer to kill in the future. Sure the LDWF will get more money now, but they will pay for it in the future. The number of deer hunters will decrease in the next 5 years as the number of deer will decrease and the success rate will decrease and some hunters will loose interest. They keep making rules for the occasional hunter, but they don't keep in mind what the hardcore hunters will do to the heard. Shore the occassional hunter will have a better chance of harvesting a deer if everyday is doe day, but after a few years of the hardcore hunters hammering the does the occassional hunter will be back in the same boat. There will be fewer deer and therefore fewer scuccessful hunts.
