Been hunting Richard k yancey for a few years now during the thanksgiving rifle season. Haven't had much luck so today we and a buddy went scout. Found some decent areas trying to not crowd any old flagging trails that we came across. But we did go down an atv trail that seemed pretty unused. Didn't see many flags along it and found many trails crossing the roads but the trails were had to find in the woods and the trees were very low hanging so my fear is that once you climb a tree you won't be able to see much. My main question is what are the rules for the distance that I have to be off an atv trail? Or if I can hunt the trail itself. I understand I am going to have people possibly pass along the trail while I'm hunting which I'm fine with because I think I can see some animals crossing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I just started hunting in mississippi and was reading the regulations. I had a question about spikes. I always heard that you couldn't shoot spikes in Mississippi. According to the regulations it has to have a 10 inch spread and a 13 in main beam. I saw a big cow horn this weekend close to this but didn't shoot because he wasn't quit there but could I legally shoot him if the criteria was met?
Looking to go offshore maybe this weekend. Was wondering if anyone working offshore has been seeing any tuna at any rigs in green canyon. If not I may need a little help on chasing them behind the shrimp boats. What areas would be best to do that in? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Was wondering if anyone was catching trout yet in pointe a la hache. Still getting the boat ready but should be done shortly. Hoping to have it done by the full moon phase at the end of this month.
I was wondering if anyone could tellme where I could catch some bullreds or bull drum around cocodrie. I usually fish grand pass but we have a camp in cocodrie now. Any general are would be fine to bottom fish would be nice, doesn't have to be bull reds or drum. Just want to relax and catch fish not troll around casting and reeling in .
Went to Lake Boeuf this morning and got 30 coot. Had 20 by 8 o'clock but decide to have a little fun and make some far shots. Took us only 25 min to get the last 10. All in all in was a blast. Birds constantly flying. We were letting them land in the decoys to get a little farther shot from other birds. The only bad thing is that I didn't see a single duck. Was hoping to get a few of them too but the were no wheres to be found.
Hunted today in chauvin and didn't do to good. Seen plenty of birds and had plenty of shots just couldn't hit them. Seen mostly greys with a few teal and summer french mixed in. Got a late start and only killed one spoonie. Maybe next year. Was wondering if anyone knows how to get in ntouch with the hunting club behind tee locks as a seen many birds flying that area as I was on my way in. Or if anyone would lease me an area to hunt.
My grandpaw has some family land in Bayou Black. There was a rig about 10 or more years ago and they moved it now. Where the rig was at is high land but it is overgrown. The land is primarly swamp but they do have some high ridges. I was wondering if I cleared out the old rig area and made it a food plot if it would be worth it. Im thinking that a steady food source would keep deer in the area instead of them traveling for food. I am worried about clearing it because I think they might be bedding down in there. I was competely dry after all that rain we had in mid December while the road leading to it was 15 inches under water. Any opinions would be appreciated. Also what type of vegetables should I plant for the plot. Should I do a variety or just one type.
I was wondering if I rigged a barge out to shrimp with a butterfly net would it be legal to tow it to boudreaux canal and anchor it out and use it. I don't see why not I just want to make sure before I spend the moey to do it. I know I need commercial licenses and all but as far as me anchoring it out is that ok. Also would I be able to leave it out or have to move it every nite.
Hunted lake boeuf today and killed three. We had 3 people in the blind and had 5 birds come in range and only one got away. We knocked down 4 but only found three. Only seen about 60 teal and seen about 40 big ducks.
Looking to see if anyone has been offshore lately to see where the yellowfin are? We went last weekend and caught a few blackfin. Talked to another group and they did the same. We were around green canyon 641 and those rigs close to it while the other group was around mad dog, shenzie, marco polo and that area. Usually the tuna are there just wondering what is going on here. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Tryin to make one more trip before we pick it up for the year to start duck hunting. Thanks in advance.
Looking to see if anyone knows how far the blue water is green canyon. Trying to make a trip this weekend but want to find the blue water first.
Ok I do not want anybody's hotspots. I would like to hunt the wax this year and I will start scouting soon and preparing and build my own blinds and not hunt other peoples blinds. I just need to know where to launch and how to get there. I would be comming from thibodaux. Also I have a 1548 g3 with a 25 yahama. Would this be good enough or do I need a mud motor. Thanks in advance guys and good luck this year.
Hunted white lake on Sun. Dec 2nd. Had a fun time as we were told after drawing our blind is was the worst blind so far this year. We ended up bagging 1 greenhead 2 teal 2 spoonies and i specklebelly. After the hunt we were told we made the best hunt so far this year in that blind. After 7 we did not have a single duck in shooting range. Just waited for the geese and only had five work with 1 in range. Had a fun time can not wait till next year.
I was looking for someone who sells weights out of their house. I had a guy on here one time said he was just getting started and i got some prices but i lost his name and info. If anyone knows the guy or someone who makes weights let me know any info appreciated.
Well guys the bad days continue to come. Went out three times and got one grey and 3 coot. Went yesterday 11-24-06 and couldnt even get to the blind. No water at all in my pond. Saw enough ducks to get a limit finally but no piont in shooting when you cant get the birds. i dont know what i would rather being in the blinf with no birds or seeing the birds and not being able to shoot cuz you cant get to them. Man this year is so bad. I hunt in back of lake boudreaux in chauvin by the levee any other reports from the area. hear plenty of shooting going on the times i was out there but didnt see anything flying. Just want to see how everybody else is doing
went out choupiquing today and caught 11. Came home and fried those bad boys up and had a delicious feast. they are biting very funny right now but had a blast and caught all big ones.
