A few pics of my oldest son Dalton's first deer, a 70/75 pound doe. Last year he started with a .410 w/3" mag slugs but this year he stepped up to a 20 gauge w/buckshot. He's been coming with me since he was 5 years old and has passed on a few deer that were out of range or came in after dark. But he dropped the hammer on this one at about 35 to 40 yards. We counted 13 out of 20 pellets that hit her and she didn't move after the shot. She just flipped over were she was standing. He's now one of the gang and I think he's hooked for life. My second oldest , Jackson is 2 and he can't wait to go with us. His older brother will be a good teacher.
Please take a kid hunting or fishing the look on their faces is an award itself.
Very productive weekend hunting the elusive wild mushroom. With all the heavy fog they were popping out like crazy. It just so happens that almost every willow tree that had them was burried in a briar patch. Picked them, cleaned them, soaked them, and fried them. Out of this world!!!
Anyone knows what happened to the post about the head shot doe?
A few weeks back someone put up a post about a buck with no testicles , I commented and explained the deer that my 13 year old brother had killed a similiar deer last year. It took a little while to locate these pictures. The deer had a messed up rack with 10 points that went in all directions. It was more like 2 softball size masses with points sticking out in all directions and was partially still in velvet. Upon closer inspection we discovered that more than the rack was weird. The buck had "a twig but no berries" and also had an udder with milk. When we cleaned the deer it had no female parts internally. We contacted LDWF and were told that this was not as uncommon as we had thought. This happens once or twice a year according to the agent. I don't think he will ever forget this one.I hope these pictures come out.
This is my first posting, so give me some slack. It's opening weekend of dog season and I was able to take my 6 year old in the swamp with me. I hunt the same lease as lil hank so it's some pretty rough swamp. We didn't get much action but my son had a blast. The rest of the club killed 5 on opening day. I hope to post some good pictures in later postings.
