Capt Paul,
I have an older copy of the now-discontinued Garmin US Waterways and Lights program, which has many wrecks and oil and gas platforms marked on it. In your experience, how accurate are these locations currently? Also, have you ever fished any of the marked platforms or wrecks? I would assume even if the wellheads are gone there may still be a shell pad underneath if the locations are accurate.

Thank you

Does anyone know the story behind the dilapidated 120 ft. wooden "yacht" on the side of hwy 90 near Des Allemands and Paradis?

Will the red river even be huntable in 2 weeks, considering all the high water?

All that tells me is that you can only keep larger fish in Texas. Doesn't say anything about the amount and quality of fish in the state at all.

Not a bad haul for a little Texas trip, but the amount and size of fish in that picture isn't even a light snack for me. That picture wouldn't even be worth taking in my boat hawse. Glad you had a good time.

P.S. There is a reason people come from Texas to go on speck/red charter trips here. There is also a reason why no one from this state goes to Texas to charter a trip.

The best outboard motor out there is the one with the longest, most comprehensive warranty. period. They will all have problems, like the other person said.

Isn't it true that when females reach a certain size they do not breed anymore? maybe not, I'm no expert.

A comment titled: Gulps in response to a report titled: COMMENTS PLEASE

Capt. John L., I don't know why you think that a Berkley Gulp can only catch three fish before its destroyed. I caught over 20 this weekend on a Gulp under a cork and it was still ready to catch another 20. It may cost $1 a piece, but its way tougher than any other lure you listed, esp. the Bayou Chubs.

I put alot of stock into the fact that Boasso did come out against returning gillnets to the water in the LASportsman October poll. It pretty much shows where he stands on conservation issues. He has to listen to his chalmetian constituents and special interests.

Mr. Mouton, I find it funny that a career beaurocrat like yourself would have the audacity to post in the latest issue of the LA Sportsman that the DWF doesn't need a press secretary, as it is a waste of money. This is how many of us view the position you fill. The entire Commission you sit on is a joke and just adds pork and red tape to the wheels of progress. To make matters worse, they don't listen to scientific data or the majority of sportsman. I, however wouldn't ask you to step down. The entire panel needs to be disbanded.

A comment titled: Wrong again in response to a report titled: gated canals

First of all, read Article 450. Running waters are listed SEPARATELY from navigible waters. If you want to use the navigible waters argument, activities like oil/gas commercial crabbing, etc. make the areas NAVIGIBLE, because its navigible in fact. If you can put a gate up, then you can get a boat through there to do a number of different commercial activities, thus making it a navigible waterway. KIEFF is a 4th Circuit case that has ZERO binding authority on the entire state. Until the Supreme Court gets involved in this matter and correctly determines that these areas are for the public use, we must look to what the legislature has so cleary determined.

There could be a good compromise during landowners and fisherman if fisherman would agree to stay out during hunting season. But this is too easy.

A comment titled: erroneous.... in response to a report titled: gated canals

Sorry, but you guys who insist that those canals are private are totally incorrect. LA Civil Code Article 450 tells us that running water (aka tidally influenced water) is a public thing, SUBJECT TO PUBLIC USE. It is irrelevant who dug the canal. If the tide influences the water in the canal at all, it is PUBLIC, PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION. This whole "30 yr. use" concept is totally incorrect and irrelevant.

Of course, the land around it remains private, however. Too bad the crooked law enforcement people in these areas are too stupid to actually know what the law is. That is a scary proposition, but all too true.
