Not to pile on or anything, but as far as the cops are concerned a pellet gun is treated the same as a deer rifle - both usually illegal to discharge in the neighborhood. Of course your 'hood may be different..........or maybe you live in the country.

They specialize in eating other king snakes. You probably let his lunch get away.

You must be buying some really thin junky junk. I've been making stands out of EMT and square tubing for around 25 years and I can tell from experience that it takes a whole lot longer than 2 seasons to rust one out. More like 15. If you leave it under water that speeds up the rust. And if you don't fill the holes your upright tubes will fill up with water and burst in a hard freeze.

You don't really really think they want to hear our opinions do you? Things such as this are decided a long long time before they ask for input.

There was a similar 'carve out' several years ago in East Feliciana. Can't remember the particulars, but the season was altered to account for what was thought to be different rut times around Blairstown.

The December split is nothing new - just hasn't been done for a few years.

A comment titled: Club Rules in response to a report titled: Hunting Clubs

I'm in two clubs, both with roughly 1000 acres and 10 members. Two guests per hunt, guests hunt only sponsor's stands, no guest fees, can come as often as their sponsor brings them and they can shoot however many of whatever is legal they want to without it counting against the member's 6. We have no 'club' stands. Members have 5 personal stands each placed a minimum of 300 yards from any other member.

And unless they've changed things P&Y doesn't recognize deer killed with 85% let-off for the record books. Just like they don't recognize high fence tame deer!

A comment titled: Double hmmm in response to a report titled: Bow vs Crossbow vs Firearms Seasons

In the beginning there was no muzzle loader season and it was bucks only bow hunting the last few days of January. Then we got 5 days prior to the rifle season - week days only - to BP hunt. Then they gave us a week of BP after the rifle season and let us shoot either sex with the bow the last few days of January. Then they gave us a full week before the rifle season for BP and let us put a scope on it. That's when you saw the influx of in-lines, pellets, specialty bullets and fancy BP rifles that in no way resembled a true 'primitive' weapon. Then they let us shoot a doe a day up to the legal limit and then gave us the xbow to replace the compound which had all but replaced the longbow, and the mighty 45/70 and 444s to use as 'primitive' weapons. LDWF has done all in their power to remove the challenge of deer hunting in favor of increased license sales. I guess all this is progress, but in my opinion it sure has bastardised the sport.

3 does, 3 bucks - 10 point at the taxidermist
Could have killed a bunch more

No high fence, no DMAP, no management program. Just good old boys having fun and shooting what shows up!

A comment titled: DMAP in response to a report titled: DMAP worth enrolling in?

We opted out of the program after trying it for a couple years back in the late 80s. We had 1000 acres and 13 members back then and our deer population was (and still is) considered transient depending on river rise pushing the herd around. Each member got 1 doe tag. Guests could not shoot a doe unless his sponsor let him use his tag. Some didn't like the idea of other members shooting does being chased during the rut. And some of the older guys just didn't shoot does at all. Caused a lot of bickering and looking over other member's shoulders and just wasn't worth the hassle.

I bought the Horton Hunter Max package from the Cabela's catalog 3 or 4 years ago. First one flew apart on me, no problems with the replacement. Killed several deer and a bobcat with it as far out as 35 yards. If I was to buy another it'd probably be a non-cam like the Excalibur just for the simplicity. A little wider though.

'...wait on something worth dragging out & skinning,'

Any legal deer is worth dragging out and skinning. I kill 6 every year and believe me nothing goes to waste.

The state records are different from P&Y or B&C books. If I recall, the state P&Y entries start at 110 and the B&C entries at 125. I'm too lazy to look it up, but you can see them all on the LDWF web site.
